  1. You know it's a bad day when you are asked by the Park Police for your license and registration and you have to send a diver in to get your wallet.
  2. I think most of the handhelds can be hooked to a computer for udates but not real time viewing. While not a bad idea there may be a couple of problems with the laptop theory:How would you keep your laptop from bouncing around on the console of the boat? Is it waterproof? Can the screen be seen in bright sunlight? Do you need to be running on a wireless connection the whole time in order to navigate? if so, how far out can you go before losing the connection? typing on the fly would be real tough where a touch screen nav unit will be very easy to work with while on the move. I would get a cheap handheld for the jet ski simply for its size but invest in a good fixed system for the boat. You may be able to find one that you can plot your courses on the lap top at home then load them into the unit but the unit will do the navigating, not the laptop.
  3. Aside from the motor functioning properly, make sure the mount is still in good shape and nothing got bent or cracked. Check the bracket, trim assembly, bolts through hulls and all of that. Make sure you didn't damage the boat by having the motor/mount torqued like that.
  4. I have never been on the Contender but I do have a World Cat. Mine is a 250DC and I love it. If you go to the world cat forums, look up a guy that posts frequently named Capt Jim. He runs The Beast Charters and runs a 33TE. He will be able to give you lots of info on that boat. I think he is on his second, maybe thrid one. He loves it. I know you will have more deck space on the WC since it is a wider boat right up to the bow pulpit since the deck is square not narrowing as you move forward. It handles rough water better than the same size mono hull and is overall a more stable platform.
  5. Hey NJ, got a question for ya. I see you have what looks like foam stuffed in next to your motors. If that just for storage or to help with keeping them from dropping and coming out of alignment? I have been having problems with them dropping on my cat and was just curious
  6. Hi John, You and I have been e-mailing the last few days. I tried searching the forums but for some reason those posts never showed up. I knew I saw it on thre before. I just wish I saw it the day you offered a few demo units for reviews on boards I will be in touch real soon
  7. We have never met nor spoken but I feel your pain. My wife moved out a few months ago and we are divorcing as well. I am fortunate to still have my job(2 actually) but they are uncertain at best. I am sorry to see another in hard times and truly hope it turns around sooner than later. Either way, it WILL turn around so hang in there. This will all blow over in time. Just hold on tight for the ride and in the end we will all be stronger for it. I wish you the best of luck in your job search and your new life. The best advice I can give is think of it as new beginnings not ends. So far it has kept me sane. If you find yourself in PA or NJ, drop me a line. The first round is on me.
  8. I thought I had seen this on RB before but the search function came back with nothing Has anyone used the Twin Trim system before? I am considering it for my cat and wonder how it is in the real world. Worth the money? How easy to install? All the usuall questions
  9. I would be happy to get just one of those and have water that calm up here Nice video. Well done to the angler.
  10. We did the same trip last year and used www.homeaway.com to find a place. I have no afiliation with them other than being a happy past client. We got a great condo and it was extremelly reasonabley priced. Give em a try
  11. Reminds me of a scam from a while back I heard about. May have been an urban legend but who knows. A couple of guys got together and started their own long distance phone company. Back when everyone was using services like 1010usa for cheap long distance calls on land lines. They named their companies "it doesn't matter" and "I don't Care" and names like that. This way when you called teh operator and they asked how you wanted to be connected and you said "oh, it doesn't matter" they had to connect you with that company since it is listed as a provider. They charged like $200.00 per minute. From what I remembered, the operators were nto allowed to make a recommendation for any one service so even though they knew it was bad, they had to put you through. New laws had to be passed to prevent people from doing this in teh future. For a while though, these guys made mint by playing the system. Like I said, it may have been just a story but with how people are these days, it could very well have been true
  12. I don't know the answer for sure but if that is a problem, then the boat nannies have gone too far, IMHO. I agree but I wonder if it is like having open containers and closed ones within reach of the driver in a car.
  13. OK, I know this has been covered but I have yet to see a clear cut answer. I boat in NJ so Florida and California laws probably are different. Let's say I load up the fish lockers with ice and beer for a day of cruising around and hitting the local sand bars. Of course I will not be drinking anything but soda and water. So what is the ruling on having beer on board even when I am not partaking? I never drink when I am away from the dock but is there a problem with having alchohol in open containers and closed for everyone else on the boat?
  14. LInks work fine. That's a real shame. So much for safe and sound covered storage. I wonder how many boats were destroyed. Hopefully there were no live-aboards sleeping in there when it all came down
  15. Now that would be something to watch!!! Sure would. Make sure you have someone filming you do it and post it here!
  16. Tie a mouse to the end of your line and cast it onto the deck. That should lure the snake out. Then once he takes the bait. reel him in and dispose of accordingly.
