  1. Okay, I guess you could save some money if you could get the parts for free/near free. How about an electric actuator like the ones Lenco uses for their tabs? They don't have a lot of throw so steering might be limited if you don't/can't set it up right. You would need to attach the actuator pretty close to the engine pivot to get a good range of motion. I'm sure they could work for a low speed kicker. It would be easy enough to fab a bracket and wire it up. I don't think the actuators cost that much brand new so it might be something for you to look at.
  2. I'm sure it could be done, but for what purpose? Is there some application that can't be filled with currently available equipment?
  3. Thanks for the replies. I poked around a little but didn't find much of interest to me. I was just wondering if I was missing the value.
  4. While doing some research on the web this morning, I ran across this website, http://www.clicktoboat.com/index.asp. I haven't had time to look at it yet and was curious if anyone else had. It appears to be something like Mapquest. Can you really use it for anything or is it just a gimmick? Does it have any value?
  5. Are nick names just a southern thing? I don't know, I'll call my buddy Two Fingers Tony and ask him. He's usually hanging around with Vinny the Chin and Fat Johnny over at Slick's place.
  6. I'm not sure but something tells me you may have edited the recall copy.
  7. Solenoids are simply coils that create a magnetic field in the presence of electrical current. I would guess that the original used a chassis ground, in other words one side of the coil was connected to the body of the solenoid. The new one has the coil electrically separate from the body so it needs two wires, one for positive input and one for ground. It shouldn't matter which wire goes to ground (chassis) and which goes to positive (reverse light circuit).
  8. That's why I was asking, I'm in the same boat. I use a few programs I'm familiar with, no problem, but once the conversation turns to geekspeak (or anything even close) I get lost pretty quick. Anyone else care to chime in on this? Remember, keep it simple, I'm a computard.
  9. I was going to suggest the same thing. I've seen ads for them before but couldn't tell you where to get one. Maybe try to find some web sites that deal with the great lakes as I know they do slow troll up there.
  10. I haven't looked at the link you provided yet. How is it different than emptying the trash can and deleting cookies through the browser? I could definitely use more speed but I'm always leery of free stuff on the internet.
  11. The problem you may run into with a webbed finish deck is porosity of the surface. The gelcoat surface, due to a number of reasons, is not sealed the same way a molded, shiny gelcoat surface is. There are a couple of methods that provide a good sealed surface but these are largely ignored due to process time at the factory. These webbed finishes, while shiny when new usually degrade pretty fast when exposed to the sun. The porosity captures dirt and grime pretty well. Applying wax over it can seal in that dirt. The wax itself may leave an uneven appearance even if the deck is really clean. I'm not saying don't do it, just that the results may not be as good as you expect. If you do it and keep up with it it will probably get better over time and should help protect the surface going forward. It will certainly help with cleanup.
  12. Man, that is a shame, 'cause right up till then you had a shot.
  13. Generally, if there is air in the system the steering will be mushy in both directions and all speeds. You say the problem is only when you turn right at speed. Is it only in the upper station or at both the upper and the lower? If it's only at the upper it may be a problem with the helm pump. There a small valves that open and close on demand and if you get some contamination in the system it may not allow the valves to operate correctly.
  14. Looks like we're out of the Cone of Death with these three. I bet the local weather guys had their Red Bull and Power Shots all lined up and ready to go for the duration of the mayhem. I guess they'll have to live vicariously through the Carolina weather guys and, of course, update us on every movement of the storms that won't affect us. Can you tell I'm already sick of the Instant Action Dual Doppler Viper Radar Eye in The Sky News Team Weather coverage before it even starts?. To everyone who might actually be in the path, keep your heads down and stay safe.
  15. This story reminds me of about half the action/adventure B movies I've ever seen. You know the scene - bad guy bikers are chasing good guy in a car. They pull up next to the car waving guns, etc. Bullets fly, long chase ensues. All it would take is a quick lane change and the chase is over but, of course, that doesn't make for good movie footage. Unlike the movies, this chase was over before it started. Darwin is proven correct once again.
  16. I always thought it was a one in a million shot but now I guess it's two in a million.
  17. I feel your pain, literally. When I was about 12 I got hit by a wasp inside my nose. Someone later asked me how it felt. I told them to grab all the nose hairs you could and yank them out at one time then follow that up by sticking a lit match in there. Follow that with a punch from Mohammed Ali and you might be getting close. I've done (or had done to me) a lot of damage to my body over the years. Broken bones, stitches, burns, etc but nothing ever came close to that.
  18. And it only takes 20,000 hp to get it there! I wonder what the gph is?
  19. That thing is a vision, a drug induced vision, but a vision nonetheless. "professionally installed two person fishing tower" Not sure of the profession but it ain't building boat tops. Four spot lights? everybody knows the minimum on a boat that size is five. And I really think the two broadcast TV antennae is too much, I would have opted for a satellite dish.
  20. Beer can chicken. I put about 3-4 oz orange juice in the cans. Rub the chicken with Adobo and fresh ground black pepper. cook with indirect heat for about an hour. Check temp in thigh with meat thermometer to make sure it's done. Bigger birds might take 1.25 hours. Breast comes out juicey as can be. In fact, when you carve the bird, juices will run so be prepared for the flood. I also throw some apple wood chips in the smoke box when I'm doing them. The only drawback to beer can chicken is the skin is kind of leathery tough. If you want the skin to be crisp, after the chicken is done take it off the can and throw it over direct heat, turning it every minute or two.
  21. Like my wife said, every little bit helps. She likes a wide boat. She knows that a skinny boat is better for speed but she thinks volume is better than speed.
  22. Great, you ran off another one! I was all set to learn the art of detailing and now I'm sitting here with my buffer in my hand and no instructions. Thanks a lot!
  23. Imagine the knuckleheads humping that carcass all over town on the Metromover (small train for those that don't know). I wouldn't want to be on that car for a few days.
  24. Okay, since you got the free sample and all, we're gonna need you to test this product out. Skewer yourself with a 4/0 J-hook, remove it and report back.
