  1. i think it is a popular thing to trailer using the "flip down" to rest the engine on while trailering. not sure if instructions for the f250 (my engine) generalize to other motors, but the manual for the f250 says specifically to NOT use the flip down for trailering. i know that the flip down can be used to secure the engine when you want to retract the trim rods fully (for whatever reason). also when leaving the boat in the water, to take the pressure off the hydraulics and to get the LU high enough to clear the water. jim
  2. Last summer i decided to blue out my livewell to keep the livies happy. They seem to be a little more viable after the long run out. A cheap project you might want to try. OOOOPS....misspelled BLUE.....a Freudian slip i am sure ......how do you edit the title line? jim
  3. doing my best to get the word out to my fellow boaters on the left coast and on the other two sites i frequent. several have joined already. this site does need some more aggressive moderation though.
  4. how about "Ludicrous Miami" #5 .......you're famous
  5. there is a torque specification page in the F250 owner's book (pg 42). exact torque on oil filter is actually 13.3 ft/lb. LU plug is just tight. look at the slot before you remove it and make sure it is about the same when you tighten it back up......but tight.
  6. my stuff, your stuff........it's all a blur.
  7. almost forgot.......it is easy to over tighten the oil filter because you can't really get your hand in there. i use a torque wrench to get the 14-15 ft/lbs.
  8. Hey FH.....glad to see you made it over. that's two days in one week.
  9. they need to either lengthen the season or increase the limits because the snapper are killing us over here. you go to your favorite grouper spot and the snapper have eaten everything in sight and run off or half starved the grouper. good on you Tx boys for standing your ground.
  10. I have really been killing the fish lately with the butterfly jigging systems. Check out the videos in the link below. Select the "media" drop down, then hit "videos". There are 3 segments. The real value of this system is that while it is clean (and fun), you catch a whole different class of fish. The fish that hit the butterfly jig are hitting out of aggression not a hunger strike so you are catching fish that would not normally be chewing. Two weekends ago out of Pompano I was catching Blackfins one after the other in the middle and mutton to trigger fish on the bottom. You really have to learn to "walk the dog" or your catching will be limited. I took two identical rigs to Pompano to fish with two skeptics. While I was one after the other they were fighting over the other jigging stick but did not catch a fish due to lack of technique. I confess, I am really addicted to this style of fishing. Butterfly jigging the grip. my jigging sticks......... CS 551 Progear mated to 50-100 med/heavy Trevala w/65lb braid to 80lb wind on leader
  11. that's it......i need a stripper pole on boat.
  12. went out to my favorite spot in the FL Middle Grounds 120 mi out.........a 4 hr ride. gas $4 a gal then. the fish are on fire.....after only 15 minutes of mortal combat and excitement, my fishing buddy puts a grouper hook 1/2 inch past the barb into his hand between the thumb and index finger......buried deep into the meat and bone. he tries to be a tough guy and keep fishing but the adrenaline wears off. he drinks a few beers.....no help. we head back after only 30 min of fishing to go to the ER........a rare great day fishing but BAD day scenario.
  13. i trailer over to Jupiter and the Keys frequently to fish. been using these motor supports and have been well pleased. previously i would bring the trim rods in all the way for protection from road grit/damage which required a lot of battery juice to do so. these little guys support the engine and protect the trim rods as well. really only need one for engine support but i use two for the extra protection for the trim rods. FWIW i am not affiliated in any way the the company.
  14. Thanks guys. Tom.....she is big boat for a 23 and is pretty much hose and go with very little maintenance. Parkers don't do anything perfectly.......but do most things well.......and that works for me. A great utilitarian, family friendly boat.
  15. in case you don't have it already.....the 73mm oil filter socket can be had at any Discount Auto parts. i assume you have a 3/8 ratchet set. i use a Moeller hand pump/oil extractor. pop the oil fill cap to help the flow rate. warm oil moves quicker than cold. a diaper under the oil filter helps to collect any spilled oil upon removal. there are many techniques for minimizing the oil spillage. GlenE has a good technique as well that involves a plastic bag. the LU plug/fill can be a pain and is easily stripped so be careful and use well fitting common screw driver or i think there may even be a specialty tool available. there is a copper gasket that may or may not need replacing. i went to the dealer and purchased a couple of extra LU plugs. good luck.
  16. now that i have quelled the hijacking attempt by the good pirate Knot-so-Skinny, and this ship is back on course, i need to get a line on replacing a standard halogen spreader with a low draw LED spreader. This may bring the interest level back to "newsworthy"
  17. alright.....quit responding.....it's past my bedtime. let me think........from my interactions with him, Wiley has a bit of wit and class about him. So, nah i am fairly certain you are not him. a recent poll says you are mod 13..i'll go with that.
