  1. here is a cool animation of the Loop Current and Gulf Stream and others. http://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/loop...t_2005-2006.mpg
  2. Wiley.......these two projects have not been moved yet.? This one could go under "Product Reviews" http://reelboating.com/forums/?showtopic=914
  3. FYI: Today, Boater's World next to Tyrone Mall had two left. Price $104. I bought one full price last summer........love it. The detail really gives you insight to where the fish might be........especially in the Middle Grounds.
  4. 5/3 out of Passe Grill...... Today's deep sea adventure included the Otherline and Grouppimp on Larry's 25 Parker PH. we headed out the pass at sunrise to see Glen netting some bait out front......we paid homage to the master and continued on our way. destination the "bomber wing" in 155ft.......... home of the massive and plentiful AJs. the trip out was a solid 2-3 whitecapping sea (building as predicted).....we were desperate but knew Larry's boat could handle it. i knew it would be a good test and confidence builder for Larry as a first truly OFF offshore trip since his ordeal. finally arrived. whew, travis was not kidding. we caught one after the other 30-50lb AJ's with a cuda mixed in for excitement.......or disappointment depending on your viewpoint. the AJs were so thick they made the Pride look like child's play. Travis brought one boat side and half a dozen of his bruiser buddies schooled up with him. i could have easily gaffed a free swimming 50lb fish.......probably would have lost the gaff. we decided to move to a known grouper spot a few miles away. however the spot was covered with ARS. Travis nearly hooked a HUGE cobia that snuck up behind the boat........swing and a miss. with the seas building to a whitecapping 3-4 we decide to head in. score for the day........about 20 or so bruiser AJs (kept 3), Porgies, a bazillion ARS (release in disgust) and a rainbow runner (?). saw groupershooter and crew on the way in.......post the report boys.....hope you did well. that's it........carry on.
  5. Hey Don: most guys i know that do this trailer down to Marco Island and put in there. from there you can pretty much pick the Key you want to go to since there are about equally spread out from that point. they leave at sunrise and arrive at their destination about 12-1PM. good luck. i am sure more people will chime in who have more first hand experience with the trip.
  6. too funny........good one Menzies. And of course......welcome Juan.
  7. Jan 3, and i want a six pack of Kalik or Red Stripe. i think you know the address.
  8. they say that Walmart greeters have to be nice to everybody even when it's not their b-day.
  9. on some sandbars in this area, stern to is the method of choice because stern out will put you in too deep of water to use the swim platform/ladder. also, if exposed to boats wakes or ocean sells stern to is the only safe way to anchor up to a beach. my method.........maneuver the boat stern to the sandbar about 30 yds out. drop the main hook, and back aggressively towards the sandbar. have the stern hook at the ready. as the depth rises to about 2 ft shut off and raise the motor letting the momentum of the boat carry you backwards. toss the stern as far as you can at the beach and tie off the bow. jump in the water and make sure the stern anchor is well set in the sand. use the windlass/bow anchor to adjust position and depth.
  10. try making the first letter of each word slightly larger and it will pop a little more.
  11. it is neat for what it is. people tend to get the Spot confused with essential safety equipment such as an EPIRB. the Spot is really just a communication device that can transmit personalized info to folks back at home. and yeah, it can summon the calvary but that's just a bonus feature. an EPIRB is a tool that you hope you never have to use........a Spot is a tool that you can use every time you go out if you want.
  12. Welcome. i've seen a few boats around here like yours. there are days with light winds out of the east where you can do nearshore Gulf fishing. you see it all in Tampa Bay on nice days. there is a lot of fetch so it can get a pretty big chop in high winds. i am sure will meet plenty of other like minded guys with bigger boats that will take you offshore. good luck on your relocation.
  13. hey, fishing is more fun than work is it not? too bad catching was not part of the game plan as well.
  14. the paper here said that one of the guys knew and worked with Schuyler, and had just recently decided to get a new EPIRB.
  15. Menz........i guess you are so dayum popular that some rodents will seek you out no matter where you go. they won't admit it but they really miss you.
  16. ......i just mind my own business. honestly, i try at all costs to avoid boating on weekends just to avoid those situations. if i do find myself at the sandbar and someone is struggling to anchor up or lack the proper equipment to anchor up in that situation and can possibly impact the well being of my boat......then yes, they will receive all kinds of friendly advice.
  17. what is really cool is when you select SAt view. it shows bottom topography. i caught those fish in the dark areas where you see the multiple "pings".
  18. actually, Tom (BWP) just emailed me.......that's a known Garmin issue......and yes AP and yellow eye going on the bucket list.
  19. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore"..........
  20. hate it when that happens. i want to catch a Yellow Eye!
  21. welcome. introductions slide on down to "dockside chatter". we have a regular band camp over here. me because a Mod thought i was a "Jerk" (no actual rules broken) . Menzies a Potty Mouth (he, he) ..........the list goes on. just sit back and watch the THaT spiral.......this is a boating and fishing forum over here though.........with hint of good natured ribbing and humor occasionally. Enjoy.
