  1. If you fog the engine through the carb, really no need to spray oil down the cylinders.

first add a stabil or startron

    top off tank

run engine with muffs on to normal tempature or at least 5 minutes so additive gets thru the lines

    fog the motor

    shut off motor and water

remove spark plugs, spray in fogging oil, put plugs back

    drain lower unit

refill lower unit, usenew gaskets on the screws

spray entire motor w/wd 40 or similiar product

cover engine w/ towel put cowling back on

make sure engine is down so all the water drains out

    shut off fuel

remove fuel and water seperator filter, install new one

    wait for spring :605_thumbs_up:

  2. NEWPORT, R.I. — Attendance at last week’s Newport International Boat Show was up 12 percent, according to a release following the event. Organizers reported gate sales were back to levels seen two and three years ago, before exhibitor guests and other tickets were counted.

“This was without a doubt one of the best shows we have ever had,” Show Director Nancy Piffard said in the release. “The weather was perfect all four days, many of our exhibitors have been sending us e-mails about the boats and equipment they sold plus the leads they received at this show, and attendance was up! What more could we ask for in this economic climate. Going into the show we were concerned, but it looks like exhibitors and attendees alike were more than satisfied.”

The 2009 boat show presented more than 650 exhibitors with over 500 boats ranging in size from 16 to 92 feet, including express cruising yachts, racing sailboats, ocean-going trawlers, sport fishing boats, runabouts and inflatables. In addition, there were engines, sails, equipment, safety products, electronics and accessories as well as seminars, demonstrations and workshops.

Good news, to bad no photos

  3. My Raymarine rudder reference bought the farm, so I decided to replace it with a Teleflex Smartstick. E-mailed teleflex , before ordering the smartstick, to confirm that it would work with my setup and gave them all of the partnumbers.

When I attempted to install and test the smartstick, the steering cylinder galled the smartstick, ruining the finish and bending the brackets. Sent photos to Teleflex and they informed me that my cylinders and setup were incompatible with the smart stick! However, they would be happy to exchange my entire setup with a new one that would work!

I received two new steering cylinders, a new smartstick, new low profile sender, and four quarts of hydrauilic fluid, free of charge! Heck, all I was fishing for was a refund.

I am planning on doing the replacement as soon as I figure out how to purge the old hydraulic fluid out of the system. Appears that the previous owner used some sort of red oil in the system that I am afraid is incompatible. Anyone know how to purge all of the hydraulic fluid from a teleflex system?

I would imagine you could follow the bleed procedure and run the system dry.

  4. There are a few of these ( leftovers) for sale in Jersey. They are probably a few years old already. I know for a fact that one is loaded with top shelf electronics. Check Hobby Lobby Marine and Somer's Point Marina sites for info. Capt.Matt

Lots of used 33's around, not so sure about the 36. Also the 33 might be the better model.

  5. PORT ARANSAS, Texas (AP) -- Three Texas boaters missing for a week were reunited with their families early Sunday after they were found alive, sitting on top of their capsized catamaran 180 miles from land, the Coast Guard said.

The crew of the Affordable Fantasy spotted the men Saturday night off Port Aransas and rescued them from their 23-foot catamaran, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Renee Aiello. A Coast Guard boat met them and brought them back to land, where emergency management services crews were waiting for them. They declined medical attention.

They were identified as Curtis Hall, 28, of Palacios; Tressel Hawkins, 43, of Markham; and James Phillips, 30, of Blessing, who owned the boat.

The three were reported missing Aug. 22 after they left Matagorda, about 90 miles southwest of Houston, on a fishing trip and never returned. Port Aransas is about 130 miles from Matagorda.

The three went to sleep that Friday night and were awakened by water coming in, said Shane Phillips, whose husband, James, was relaxing Sunday with his five children.

"They tried to start the pumps to get the water out," she told the Houston Chronicle. "They would not start."

They fired off three flares hoping to get the attention of workers at a nearby oil rig, but no one responded. The boat capsized that night.

The Coast Guard officials said they survived because they stuck with the boat. The men also rationed bubble gum and crackers and used a hose to suck fresh water out of the internal "washdown" tank. Fishermen often keep such a tank to wash fish slime off their boat when they are out in the salt water.

"It's not the cleanest, not the greatest and it tasted like diesel," Shane Phillips told the newspaper.

The Coast Guard had called off its search Friday after scouring 86,000 square miles of water without finding them.

    :o

"It's like finding a needle in a haystack out in the Gulf of Mexico," Aiello said late Saturday. "It's obvious they had a will to survive, and they did it for seven days."

Hall's fiancee, Rebecca Kern, said it was difficult to describe her emotions.

"It's just been a roller coaster of emotions all week, the not knowing, getting upset and fearing for them out there. We weren't going to give up," she said. "We knew they were out there on that boat and we had to bring them home."
