  1. Were yours TA-312's? The WWII - 1950's vintage is about right for the start of their use, but those things were around until the early 90's at least-they may even still use them. Amazing how long something so simple can remain in use.
  2. The cost to ship it or tow it is probably less than one year's storage, especially when you factor in extraneous costs like shrinkwrapping, misting & winterizing, new tires at the end if it's to be stored on the trailer, new batteries, working out all the bugs will cost after it's sat that long, too, and on top of that your electronics will be getting a bit dated. Personally, I'd take it. The drive to the coast is really more like 2.5 hours, but even that's not bad, and the fishing is good. My second choice would be to sell it, with storage being a distant third.
  3. What kingair said about the free hosting is right on. You can also go to the next level with their "website tonite" program, which hosts pretty cheap and gives you more pages, bandwidth, and storage. Also, with paid hosting (I think it starts at around $4/mo) you don't have the godaddy logo pasted on your site....It's there on the templates, but you can hide it.
  4. Tim....I'll write an email later when I get a few minutes, & we can talk about it. I can walk you through some stuff. You can get on the web with a domain name, secure server, and shopping cart for a couple hundred $$ and stay there for probably around $100/year......maybe a tad more if you need alot of pages or a crazy amount of bandwidth. IMO the hardest part is getting traffic there. First step is to come up with a domain name, find out if it's available, and register it. www.godaddy.com is an easy place to do that. Think catchy and relevant. Reelboating.com is a good example of that.
  5. oh, and I'd take the boat...that covers me for a place (small place!) to sleep and a way to get food......besides, I'd get at least SOME of the guns regardless., because she has no idea how many I have or where they are.
  6. You can always view charts here, too.....the basic charts are not terribly interactive, but they are "real" charts....there are also "print on demand" charts, and ENC's (electronic navigation charts) here: http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/OnLineViewer.html
  7. SeaVee....I don't have any suggestions as to the finding of a job, but one suggestion I do have is to also float your question on the local forums. Hotspot has one called www.bogueinletnc.com and there's also www.fryingpantower.com No idea if either will help, but I'm fairly sure it wouldn't hurt
  8. That one should make the all-time top 100!
  9. Good stuff. Here's another slide show: http://www.frugalsites.net/911/sept11.html It's about 10 minutes, but well worth the time.
  10. Dang, ICM. That sucks. I hope you get your stuff back, or at least an appropriate restitution. There's just not much lower than a thief.
  11. They keep showing this thing turning, but it keeps getting closer and they just forecast a sharper turn. Ya gotta wonder..........
  12. Ditto, or some similar electrical issue. The likelihood of losing the oil pressure in two engines at precisely the same time is ridiculously low. On the same note: the likelihood that your mechanic is defective and needs to be replaced is much higher. I would suggest that prior to throwing any more oil pumps at the problem, some more troubleshooting is needed.....check wiring, remove oil pressure senders and check the pressure w/ a mechanical gauge, etc.
  13. Welcome, Pax...I think you'll like it here- It's a friendly atmosphere.
  14. What does "OT" stand for? Oh....and x3 on the AGM
  15. I think it's on the right track for that. RB has an atmosphere unlike most forums, where people actually "get to know" one another. I haven't seen many forums where addressing people by their first name (as opposed to their handle) is commonplace like it is here. That alone shows a sense of community.
  16. Works for me....those two typically move pretty slow anyway, so I rarely go there.
  17. You'll probably get it back within a few days.....less the engines. There was a Cape Horn 36 stolen from Greenville Marine (NC) a few months ago, only the thieves brought the stolen truck with them (stolen the same night from a car lot, I think) They found it 100 miles away in Apex, NC abandoned alongside the road all intact except the outboards were gone.
  18. According to this, it seems that it was sold in 2007 for $23,900,000.00 USD http://www.superyachttimes.com/yachts/details/1468/
  19. That happened to a friend of mine about 25 years ago- we were working together on separate dozers and he stirred up a huge nest of bees. He was stung 5 or 6 times, but was allergic, had no bee sting kit, and we were 15 or so miles from the nearest town and almost 5 miles from the nearest asphalt. (this is before cell phones) He was unconscious before we hit the paved road, and by the time we got to the hospital he was blue. He survived, but was pretty damned lucky to do so.
  20. Final score: Physics 1, Biker 0 http://www.fox5sandiego.com/news/kswb-bike...0,6272692.story
  21. Add a little parmesan cheese (the powdered kind) to that corn...you'll love it, guar-on-teed
  22. The upside of bringing it back here would be consolidating/increasing your traffic-the benefits of that are obvious, not the least of which being advertising revenue. The downside (IMO) is that if you take away the adult content (language, nudity, etc.) you lose the sandbar.
