  1. Update....I typed this and then thought "Damn...I haven't had fish tacos in a while" I'm working on rectifying that situation right now! Fish Tacos for dinner. Life is good.
  2. Old Bay seasoning boil does it for me. Frogmore stew????? Please tell me it's not what I'm thinking!!! Can someone elaberate? I gots to know. I have a Golden Frog Retriever and a Chesapeake Bay Frog Retriever. BTW---Whitch are versital and very well trained. They can stalk and take lizzards by surprise as well. These boys are good. Maby it will supliment my food bill Many years ago I had a german shepard that loved catching groundhogs, more recently I had a great dane here and he caught foxes, wake up in the morning and he would lay them at the front door. Frogmore stew is a low-country boil. The SC guy's I have know call it that, sort of a mix of red potatoes, sausage sometimes, shrimp, fish and whatever else. I have eaten some and it good stuff but I don't know what to do to make it. Butch When I lived in Texas/Louisiana we just called it "Crawfish Boil". I've had it since I've lived in the Carolinas and Low Country Boil is essentially the same thing. The potatoes have to boil the longest. Let them boil in Old Bay or Tony Chachere's for about 15-20 minutes, then drop in corn on the cob, crawfish, shrimp, clams, or all three and cut up sausage. Boil for another 5 mins or so & get after it. Yum!
  3. I don't understand Why would you boat without fishing??
  4. To the logo? I just noticed that the racy little Reel Boating logo is missing!! Wiley...what gives? Are you working on replacing it with this one?
  5. I wish I would've known that! I won't forget when I hit 1000.
  6. Suggestion: For anyone that doesn't have one, the USCG auxiliary distributes decals with step by step instructions for distress calls. You can get them (free) from the USCG auxuiliary, most boat shows, and most boating stores (West Marine, etc.). As Captain, I know we all know how to make the call, but it's a great thing to have and point out to your passengers when you do your pre-trip safety briefing (I know we all do that, right?) just in case you are ever incapacitated and need someone else to make the call.
  7. His distress call was that he was taking on water. The conditions were a little sloppy, and there were alot of boats coming in the inlet from fishing the Big Rock, so swamping is a very thin outside possibility, but it was a 25' Mako, so it should have been more than sufficient for conditions (since I was on my 23' SeaFox) My guess woiuld be either a drain plug that didn't get put in or a thru hull failure.
  8. I really hope he spent at least part of that life savings on an insurance policy before he headed out, but of course, I wasn't about to ask him at that moment!
  9. Has this trip already passed? George Poveromo had a good show last weekend filmed at New Bern, which is just a few miles from Oriental. Or you can run offshore via Ocracoke Inlet, but that's about a 20 mile trip just to the inlet from Oriental, and the sound can get pretty snotty.
  10. Fish Tacos Cube Mahi (or your favorite) into about 1 to 1-1/2" chunks and marinade in Zesty Italian dressing and powdered fajita seasoning. While it's marinating, I make homemade Pico De Gallo: 1 large ripe tomato, diced 1 large Jalapeno, chopped (remove the seeds if you want less spicyness) 1/2 med. Red Onion, chopped small handful of Cilantro, chopped Mix above ingredients and squeez in the juice of 1/2 lime. I cook the fish on the grill, then serve in tortillas with refried black beans, divced avocado, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, and shredded lettuce or cabbage...add salsa to taste. On the side, I serve refried black beans & spanish rice. Don't waste time making the spanish rice...buy Uncle Bens prepared rice...just pop the pouch in the microwave for 90 seconds & it's as good as any.
  11. Try West Marine. They have a pretty good selection of stainless turnbuckles in the sailing and handrail sections.
  12. I was just looking through some pics from last summer, and I couldn't remember if I had shared these with you guys. My wife and I went to Morehead City for a weekend....we got there late on Friday afternoon and were going out to the stream Saturday morning, but we decided to go out a few miles that afternoon and troll for some Spanish. We were about a mile out of the inlet, and she spotted a churning bait ball, so we decided to net some menhaden and fill the livewell. There were so many, we just drifted through and used the dip net. Once I had enough, I rigged a couple of them up to see what was driving them into a ball....just then we heard a distress call from a sinking boat. I knew he was close by his description, and before he could give the CG his coordinates, he lost communication. By then we were already under way to try to assist. I called the CG with the coordinates, and within a minute or two we were pulling up to him. I offered to bring him aboard. His reply: "I spent my life savings on this boat five hours ago. I think I'll just sit here" We hung around until the CG arrived and had the situation under control.
  13. OReely, I'm definitely interested in seeing your cooler pics too. The front of my livewell is rounded, and I've been thinking about building a custom cooler/seat to fit in front of it.
  14. I've gotten bunches of lures from Tim, and they've been excellent every time. Even better if you get him to rig them for you! First rate service & workmanship EVERY TIME.
  15. Ditto....their financial services are second to none as well.
  16. Never seen one of these before I looked up the TA-312 pic, but yours must be an EE-8.
