  1. my mom growing up was never without a/c, she was born in 56'. At the time they were the only people in the entire neighborhood who had a/c though, one of the small benifits of my granddad being in the heating & air business.
  2. well, it started when the rack was used to hang the motor for the impeller replacement, then it was kinda like, what the hell, lets just back it in, easier than getting out the muffs. Where it is in the picture is in the driveway at my uncles house, it is a driveway/launch ramp.
  3. we have a winner, and yes, much beer was involved in this project. Actually not a whole bunch, but there was a beer presence. Motor was off of it's normal jon boat to get a new impeller, this seemed like the most logical choice at the time.
  4. Can you guess the story behind this one?
  5. 1) I agree with you fully on this one. The police are not babysitters, and shouldn't be used as such. If they come, and find something going on, let them deal with it, or don't lay the whole thing on them to start with. 2) Reading the article, his prior arrest was for underage possession of alcohol. Personally, I thing that this is an asinine thing to be able to arrest anyone for. If the arrest resulted from public intoxication, that is another story, and he sould have been charged with that instead, but possession of alcohol is a purely BS charge in my book, because like I say, kids are gonna drink......period. 25 years ago, this was the norm, and actually legal in most places. to me what this shift in law had resulted in, is forcing the kids to go underground with their activities, which results in the activity of drinking being the focus rather than having a good time. because of this, the drinking is taken to the extreeme, and the results are ugly.
  6. kids being kids IMO. I dont get the parents having the police check in to start with though. The truth of the matter, kids that age are going to drink, it is a fact of life, and nothing anyone tries to do is going to prevent it from happeing. This day in age it seems that the act of drinking of possision of alcohol is the big evil. Why are we instead not dealing with this as the reality that it is, and demonizing the bad behavior that often times follows such activities. If they do something stupid, bust their a$$. If they are just drinking and having a good time, who cares, I say let them have a good time, but plant in their heads in advance that being stupid has it price.
  7. lol, I like the way you think, unfortunately I am sure the Mrs. will be more than capable of running through it in short time decorating & such. I have a few small projects of my own I want to do, yall feel free to add any necessities that I miss. add a utility sink in the garage. overhead lift pully's throughout the garage for increased storage. add big ole vice to the work bench beer fridge in garage (or possibly kegerator) 2 grills, webber kettle for charcoal moods, Wilmington Grill for everyday. stereo for garage cut down some trees
  8. there were a couple still running out of Murrells Inlet last time I checked out of Capt. Dicks, the Thunderstar was the last one around in charleston that I know of, and it bit the dust.
  9. found a guy today from by recomendation from a friend who is a licensed residential contractor, and used to do custom homes on a regular basis. Supposed to be out next monday for the inspection, then have a meeting at the conclusion to go over any points of interest that he finds.
  10. To follow up on RI Builders thread, I am currently in the process of buying a house, and need to hire an inspector for an upcoming check of the property. What criteria would you all set when hiring someone to do this. I am thinking that someone with the typical criteria you see advertised on all of the inspection companies websites is a good start, but also figure finding someone with actual construction experience, perhaps someone who does inspections & remodels or small jobs would be ideal. This will all be in the Spartanburg SC area, so if you have any specific recommendations, please share.
  11. supposed to be getting one in the next few weeks for work to replace the nextel that I currently carry. I can't decide if I am more excited about getting all of the cool features of the phone, or the fact that I will be getting rid of the nearly worthless nextel service. My company has actually had an app written that ties in with our mainframe and works real time from the iPhones, allowing us to send in orders from the field & look up various customer info without having to lug a laptop or call stuff in through another person.
  12. still got a ways to go before everything is finalized. We have verbally agreed to the counter offer, and will be signing the contract for it tomorrow, hopefully everything on the finance end will go smoothly, the biggest thing I have heard on that end is that underwriting can take a while with the large number of folks doing refi's.
  13. the only reason I didn't do that initially, my original offer was quite a bit lower than asking price, so overall I am not too terribly worried about the less than 500 bucks I will have to spend on the inspections. The listing agent actually owns the house, and is making a few other concessions as well, and while I know I could probably negotiate the inspections, I don't want to hold anything up over a marginal amount of $, especially considering I need to be in a home within the next two months. The sellers counter is really exactly where I expected him to come in at, and given the quality of construction it is going to be a bargain compared to comparable homes in the same subdivision, not to mention it is about 50k below my designated budget, and needs absolutely nothing done to it to be either move in ready or make my fiance happy.
  14. This has been a gaint pain from the get go, tons of deals on the market, but with them a ton of junk, and even more of what I consider to be "suburbia hell". Came across one this past Thursday when visiting a customers office (home office), that was across the road from his place, that had gone on the market that day. Coundn't even find a MLS on it. Contacted my realtor, who has be a huge help through the whole process, and when in to see it friday, got an offer submitted yesterday, and got a counter offer back within $2500 bucks of it, with the seller agreeable to pay all closing costs & for a home warranty. Only thing I have to pay out of pocket is for the inspection and termite inspection, 2 things that I feel like I should want to be paying for myself. The process is still not done by any means, but it does bring quite a sense of relief to know that the hours of searching are done, at least for the time being. That said, anyone have an inspector they would recomend around Spartanburg SC? I would prefer someone who does residential work as well as inspections.
  15. Been looking for a decent quality gas can to keep mixed gas in. It seems that everything you can find either has the fuel spout stored inside the container, which causes you to get gas all over you, or is a completely impractical design. The worst one I have seen lately is the "Enviroflow" by Blitz, it's a decent design, but has a spont sticking off of it that has no protection from dust. To me, clean fuel is good fuel. Any place that can trap dust that can then be "rinsed" when pouring gas are no good. I did see one on a logging show on tv that looked like a 2 piece tank, one side held gas, the other bar oil, which would be very nice.
  16. nice, there is a reason that the top wind speed for using a AWP is 25 MPH.......and requires the use of a safety harness. Sad part, if the dead tree is in proximity to the power line, the utility company would have likely cut it for FREE, especially if that is a coop line out front. Send us the link when that guy appears in the news.
  17. so what kind of boat are you upgrading to? really though, congrats.
  18. only thing I will add, don't pay someone to do the install on the power pack......literally a 20 min install. If you are real carefull you can do in dockside, wouldn't recomend it, but it would be possible. When you get the cover off, just take a quick pic of the wiring in case you forget something, but it is stupid easy, almost plug and play.
  19. no telling, pretty typical, but not too big of a deal, not a big BB fan at all, didn't even go when I was at Clemson.
  20. Lets start a list of recruits, I'll start with warthog, he's bound to have some sort of boat porn hiding just waiting for a good site to put it on.
  21. Highly doubtful, told the guy I was working for at the time my opinion of his compensation package & work requirements. Been messing with heavy equipment since december 2005, definetely a much better fit for me than hanging out with flower people all the time.
  22. What's your favorite? Regular go to beer: Miller Light If I am wanting something different but affordable: PBR Something heavy........Usually Sam Adams
  23. Should have mentioned, boats name is Porch Sittin'
