  1. In the late 80's I had a 16ft StarCraft. I was @20 at the time fishing the Chesapeake Bay with my younger brother. This was before gps. We were trolling for Bluefish when fog came in. Couldn't see 50ft. Should have headed straight home but we were young. Did @ a 25 mile loop in the middle Bay using our driver licenses as slide rule, a chart and a compass to find our way and stay out of ship's channel. Like I said we were young.

  2. Always survey. While this is not tha same as your situation, about 6 years ago I purchased a 1990 Proline 30' from a repo yard. Paid cash as is. Had a mech look at motors, thought I knew enough about hulls. Transom was solid and had newer bottom paint. Old owner apparently hit something and had repaired and painted. After six months thier patch came off bow keel as I was coming out of Balto. Harbor. Made it back home and beached boat but still sank at pier. Total loss.

  3. I have a 1986 Pursuit 2600 with trailer I purchased @2 1/2 years ago for $5,000. Hull and trasmon survied fine. Never sunk. Ran old motors for one summer back home and repowered with 2008 150 Optis last spring. Replaced old teak gunwales with starboard. Added a bunch of Scarbchris' lights. Still need to upgrade electronics and some more comestic work. Have @ $20,000 so far and maybe another $5,000 to go.

I suppose I could have bought something newer for that price but I enjoy doing the work myself and know it is done right. If it something you can do and would enjoy, go for it and have fun.

  4. that's me as well. I grew up cooking on a high dollar stainless gas grill, and now am using a weber kettle grill. It's taking a bit of getting used to, but all in all worth the effort IMO. The only thing I miss is being able to cook in 5 minutes for those quick meals that you don't have much time to prepare, but other than that I like it.

If you are not already using one, chimney starters are great. Faster and cleaner the lighter fluid or ready light charcoal. You can start the coals and by the time you prep food coals are ready.

A shorter thread would be what isn't good on a grill.

  5. I usually stroll in there around noon and hang until about 5pm. I usually drink Miller Lite or Land Shark but I can get some Amstel Lite for a change. Just tell me what you like and I'll have it for ya.

If I finish last weeks project Sat. I hope to be coming in PE Sun afternoon with some phins. Where behind Loyd's will you be? I always have a selection of beverages in cooler.

  6. Picked up material for new gunnels today.

Cut out old gunnels. Opened first bottle of wine.

Neighbors came over with fresh wahoo, phin , bft & corn. Opened second bottle of wine.

Grilled and ate fish. Drinking third bottle of wine. Next one is chilling.

Tomorrow (late) installing new gunnels. Maybe hooking up with scarabchris for led lights under gunnel.

Going to LasOlas river front for dinner tomorrow.

    Recovering Sunday.
