  1. I think I will remain neutral but I wanted to reply so you knew I was listening. I stopped going to THT because of the raunchiness that was getting worse all the time. When you started this board i jumped right in because it was refreshing to be able to read posts without the usual trash. It started to go that way and I pointed one out and you quashed it. I think if you invite that type of thing back, even in another forum, then it will migrate over. Just my opinion, I do not contribute enough to this forum to be a force one way or the other. I just like clean reading once in a while.

    Ok, so here's the deal.

In 2001 I created a very successful formula for a boating and fishing forum which included the fun side of those activities, jokes, bikini pix etc. It was suggested to me that perhaps this "fun side" shouldn't reside on the forum as it detracts from the serious discussions. These comments prompted me to open TheSandBar.net.

What I now find is... ReelBoating is apparently maybe a bit too strict on-topic and could use some fun (it's my style remember). Off topic discussions encourage a sense of community, inspire new topics, and increase memberships.

TheSandBar may be a bit too removed just having a link here from ReelBoating. In all honesty this yesterday was my first visit to TheSandBar in over 5 days!

    Here's what I'm proposing.

Bring The Sand Bar back to ReelBoating.com as a category with 4-5 sub categories. These categories are somewhat off-topic categories and not necessarily promoting any type of adult oriented discussions.

No adult oriented photos: Bikini pictures maximum - and only those related to the outdoors.

No political discussion of any kind

Funny videos area - non lewd!

Sports area for brackets, discussion, bets during season etc.

The alternative is to leave ReelBoating.com as is and TheSandBar.com as is (with less limitations). The Sand Bar categories will be free to view by all.

    WHAT SAY YE?

  2. A good mechanic is a treasure... I had to raise my own and train them - for the very reasons you put forth...

Of course the downside is when I grumble about something not being done right they just look at me and say, 'well,go look in the mirror!' and then snicker as they walk away...

I will be watching for your findings on the water leak...

    denny-o

I am sure the mechanic tearing it down will check but mention to him to check the intake manifold gaskets as he gets into it. Chevys had problems with water leaks on a lot of them. They will dump a lot of water right into the lifter valley.

  3. A safety note on tightening the strap:

Last Monday I helped my Brother get his boat on the trailer. Winched it up to the end stop, drove it up to level ground. He wanted to tweak the strap and while holding the winch handle with his right hand, he released the latch safety clip from the gear and then in a split second, WHAM. The frigging winch handle came flying around at high speed and whacked him like a sledge hammer on his right pinkie and finger next to it resulting in surgery, 3 pins (1 permanent) for 2 finger bone fractures. BE CAREFUL OF THOSE WINCHES BOYS.

Is this a lawsuit for a defective design or pilot error?

He "RELEASED" the catch. That is operator not paying attention. These catches will not release under load so he had to pull the handle a little before it would release. At that point the handle WILL spin out. That is called reading the directions! I have had the handle slip out of my hand and smack me but that is not a fault of the equipment.

  4. Rick what I did find out is it is a racing Ski boat Hp rating is apt to be high.

The aluminum on the transom is an add on I am sure, I would bet the transom is soft underneath. That is why I want to try to pin down the brand to see if it is worth putting all the work into it to fix it up. Someone did put a LOT of work into that transom support, it is all welded in the form that you see. Any ideas on where I might look for any kind of identifiers? As I said there is no hull number but any other places there might be a name or number?

  5. That looks like a boat a friend has .The seats are also incorrect.Ther should also be a spot for a hot foot pedal.I will email him and get what I can from him.

Thanks, I will take any info I can get. I had checked for the hot foot since that what was on my racing boats but I don't see any evidence of one. I am going to clean it out and try to get some better pictures.

  6. Post pictures of boats with out Identification.Someone here may be able to tell you what it is.

No manufacturer plate or numbers stamped into the transom on right side top corner near rubrail.Depending upon state(example Florida Altering boat 51% get retitled under homemade boat)

Check with each state laws governing boats there is always a legal hoop you can jump thru with little or no extra payment.Leans and levies (ex) Storage fees unpaid, Abandonment no way to contact previous owner,) Again check with your state .Florida it can be easy and hard.

Oddly enough a lot of boats were manufacturerd out in Arizona ,Arkansa because of dry climate. So you find some pretty wierd names.Molds for boats may have numerous manufacturers on the same boat. Please post pictures of recycled boats.Like these recycled projects My boat was manufactured in Arkansa for Gulf marine it is a 18ft gulf master,Century makes one, shakespear makes one,and the one big flats fishing boat maker makes one all from the same mold. The other is a recycled surf board

Her are some pic's of a boat I would like to restore. It has no HUN, mainly because I believe it is made before they were required. It is registered as a Stursa but I contacted one of the Stursa family and they told me that they never manufactured speedboats so this was a "borrowed" title.

  7. I am recycling two of my four boats now. Problem is that in NJ it is damn near impossible to get a new title for a boat. One of mine was an impound from an apartment complex, never was able to get hold of the guy. I have had it for six years so I figure I should have no problem getting a title. Yea right! First I have to pay the state for a list of all owners, then I have to advertise in the area papers for the owner to have a chance to call. I have to document that I tried to contact the owner by phone and certified letter. All in al it will cost me several hundred dollars to get a title for a 16 ft speedboat that I don't even know what it is since the previous owner called it a Stursa. I got hold of one of the Stursa'a in Michigan and found that they never made speedboats.

    I hate bureaucracy

  8. I have a set of brand new old stock Mercruiser high performance mufflers. These things look like a cast iron rectangular box with one removable end. 4" in and out. Since they are starting to crack down on open exhaust I have to do something. I look at the prices on mufflers and I have to wonder, Are these any good? They were used on go fast boats in the eighties but I did not have mine then. Can anyone tell me if they are a good choice or not?
