  1. I think I will remain neutral but I wanted to reply so you knew I was listening. I stopped going to THT because of the raunchiness that was getting worse all the time. When you started this board i jumped right in because it was refreshing to be able to read posts without the usual trash. It started to go that way and I pointed one out and you quashed it. I think if you invite that type of thing back, even in another forum, then it will migrate over. Just my opinion, I do not contribute enough to this forum to be a force one way or the other. I just like clean reading once in a while.
  2. It could be but I think that is too far in, isn't there a standard for position of the HIN? All of my other boats it is in the same spot on the top right corner. I will get into it this weekend and see what I can find. Rick
  3. I am sure the mechanic tearing it down will check but mention to him to check the intake manifold gaskets as he gets into it. Chevys had problems with water leaks on a lot of them. They will dump a lot of water right into the lifter valley. Rick
  4. He "RELEASED" the catch. That is operator not paying attention. These catches will not release under load so he had to pull the handle a little before it would release. At that point the handle WILL spin out. That is called reading the directions! I have had the handle slip out of my hand and smack me but that is not a fault of the equipment. Rick
  5. The aluminum on the transom is an add on I am sure, I would bet the transom is soft underneath. That is why I want to try to pin down the brand to see if it is worth putting all the work into it to fix it up. Someone did put a LOT of work into that transom support, it is all welded in the form that you see. Any ideas on where I might look for any kind of identifiers? As I said there is no hull number but any other places there might be a name or number? Rick
  6. Thanks, I will take any info I can get. I had checked for the hot foot since that what was on my racing boats but I don't see any evidence of one. I am going to clean it out and try to get some better pictures. Rick
  7. Any ideas on what this might be? It needs a floor but the glas is very solid. I don't even know what size motor it will handle. Rick
  8. Her are some pic's of a boat I would like to restore. It has no HUN, mainly because I believe it is made before they were required. It is registered as a Stursa but I contacted one of the Stursa family and they told me that they never manufactured speedboats so this was a "borrowed" title.
  9. I will dig out my pictures and post them. I rally would like to know what it is since I don't have a motor on it and I have no way of knowing what size I can use. Also need to know if it is a good make or junk before I spend a lot of money on it. Rick
  10. I am recycling two of my four boats now. Problem is that in NJ it is damn near impossible to get a new title for a boat. One of mine was an impound from an apartment complex, never was able to get hold of the guy. I have had it for six years so I figure I should have no problem getting a title. Yea right! First I have to pay the state for a list of all owners, then I have to advertise in the area papers for the owner to have a chance to call. I have to document that I tried to contact the owner by phone and certified letter. All in al it will cost me several hundred dollars to get a title for a 16 ft speedboat that I don't even know what it is since the previous owner called it a Stursa. I got hold of one of the Stursa'a in Michigan and found that they never made speedboats. I hate bureaucracy Rick!
  11. I have a set of brand new old stock Mercruiser high performance mufflers. These things look like a cast iron rectangular box with one removable end. 4" in and out. Since they are starting to crack down on open exhaust I have to do something. I look at the prices on mufflers and I have to wonder, Are these any good? They were used on go fast boats in the eighties but I did not have mine then. Can anyone tell me if they are a good choice or not? Rick
