  2. Lots of life left in that canvas. Because of the severity of the summer storms mixed with extreme heat down this way I need to do mine evey year. And if you have ever seen a pic of my boat I have an acre of canvas! The 303 product does work very well. I buy the gallon bottle and one of those generic spray bottles from the store and refill it. The most important step is the prewash. You must wash the canvas thoroughly from the outside in with a good detergent. Rinse the detergent out with plenty of water. This will get rid of the grime and grease. If you do not do this your waterproofing treatment WILL NOT WORK, regardless of the quality of the product you use. I use a boat wash with a long handle plastic bristle broom. Put plenty of elbow grease into this step. Then, after it has thoroughly dried, spray the 3M canvas sealer on in 3 foot by 3 foot squares (maybe even 2X2 on your size canvas), making sure to saturate the canvas. Then move to the the next section ensuring planty of overlap with the previous area. Make sure to saturate everywhere, paying attention to the areas around zips and stitching. You will also find that you can no longer go 6 or 7 years from now on. You will probably need to repeat every 2-3 years or so. Good luck!
  3. The big guy died today at age 75.
  4. Most people don’t know that back in 1912, Hellmann’s mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo. So drink 'em up and don't forget the salt!

  9. Oops, Pirates Rush French Military Ship The French Navy said they seized 11 pirates Sunday after they apparently mistook a French military vessel for a commercial ship and made a run at it off the coast of Kenya. Two pirate assault boats approached the Nivose "at great speed," Capt. Christophe Prazuck said, but a French helicopter intervened before the attackers had time to fire at the French navy ship. The helicopter fired warning shots, he said. The pirates, who had a mother ship as well as the two assault boats, are being held for questioning on the Nivose, Prazuck said. The vessels were carrying AK-47 rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, but the pirates did not fire, he said. In the past three weeks, the Nivose has intercepted 24 suspected pirates as part of a European Union anti-piracy operation off the coast of Somalia, which has become a piracy hotspot. Over the past year, more than 100 suspected pirates have been picked up, Prazuck said. Of that total, 27 have been released, and more than 70 taken to jail in France, handed to authorities in Somalia or taken to Kenya under an EU agreement with the government in Nairobi. The Nivose seized three other suspected pirates Thursday morning, the French military spokesman said, but released them the next day for lack of evidence.
