  1. Another solution to the supply side: cap a stand pipe above desired water level and cut a downward 45* slice about 1/3 the way thru the pipe just below the cap...this will create a down spray that'll aerate nicely...

Like what you did on the return side...great solution...would adding a rubber "O" ring to the back of the screw-in plug make it any easier?...might not have to tighten as much to seal...

  2. I know...I know...shoulda done this one LONG time ago, but just couldn't find a good, non-conspicuous place to put it...when I swapped new for old battery boxes it hit me!...Why not ON the battery box?...on my boat, it's easily accessed and outta the way...brought the incoming wires as usual, but for the wire from switch to battery I drilled a hole thru the box behind where the switch is mounted, so that worked out nice and clean...

  3. I just finished cleaning up my 1977 20 Seacraft and she is ready to put back in the water afer a good waxing, some touch up, new stereo and lights. I redid the boat at the end of 05 and she still looks pretty good! I know, I need to work on the rust stain in the last pic...

Nice job!!...she must do a serious "skootie-poot" w/that 200!!...I'd be out lookin' for storms so I could RUN from 'em!!... :P

  4. i trailer over to Jupiter and the Keys frequently to fish. been using these motor supports and have been well pleased. previously i would bring the trim rods in all the way for protection from road grit/damage which required a lot of battery juice to do so. these little guys support the engine and protect the trim rods as well. really only need one for engine support but i use two for the extra protection for the trim rods.

FWIW i am not affiliated in any way the the company.

I like those...sold in pairs?...who makes 'em and where didja get 'em?...

  5. Just an idea for others with the same issue. You dont have to run the tab parallel with the angle of the hull at the tramson. You can run them more "level" and use a slightly longer tab. Many high performance boats have the tabs mounted completely horizontal. This prevents them from acting like "brakes". If you think about it, tabs mounted in the traditional position like those above are moving in different directions as they go down (slightly port and starboard of the boat). By mounting them horizotal, they both move in the same direction which reduces drag and increases efficiency. It also decreases the tabs tendancy to be make an abrupt change in running attitude as they are depolyed. The outer edge ends up contacting the water first and then more and more of the tab as they are lowered. This would have moved your top hinge outward quite a bit.

Take a look at the transom shot of this Fountain for example:

That's interesting!!...and good to know...never would have considered installing them that way...good to know for the future, but the 8 x 12 tabs I have probably would not have worked on horizontal line...but thanks anyway for the idea... :605_thumbs_up:

  6. We regularly see 50 lb. Stripers around my cabin on Lake Thurmond. For those not familiar with these lakes Thurmond is the lower of the 3 big lakes in the chain. Hartwell, Russel and Thurmond are impoundments of the Savannah River known for great Striper, Crappie and Largemouth Bass fisheries.

Still can't bring myself to call Lake Clark Hill by the name Thurmond Lake...

but you are right...all 3 of these lakes have some HAWG stripes swimmin' around in 'em...they must use broomsticks and 100 lb test in Russell...never saw so many TREES in my life... :2261_high:

  7. Thought it was caught in Russell :504_shrugging::504_shrugging:

Glad you mentioned that...a friend of mine said the same thing...went back and re-read the article and it doesn't say which lake, but I'm beginnin' to think you're right about Russell...although I DO believe (sure actually) there are stripers of this class in Hartwell...several years back a guy pulled up to our camp...he was not even a fisherman...he had picked up a floating striper, still alive...we took to 55lb scale which it bottomed out easily and immediatley...

  8. Some guys don't think much of freshwater striper fishin'...this might cause some rethinkin'...caught this past weekend in Lake Hartwell SC/GA...this same guy caught a 59 lber 7 years back...

This is why I fish Lake Hartwell...

    63 lbs 4 oz

My personal best is 34 lbs, but we've always know there to be much larger stripes here...

  9. I have been using the AC Delco Voyager Marine/RV All Purpose batteries for many many years. My first set of 3 lasted about 9 years! No lie. The one's that I have now are on their 8th year. All three I did the load test on and they passed with no signs of dying!

I purchased these from K-Mart but they quit carrying them many years ago. Trying to find them now will be a challenge. I think that AC Delco distributors now are only via the GM dealerships or some special auto parts jobbers. When the time comes to replace them, I will pursue finding who carries them and go for them again. Hoping that the quality has not changed.

I take regular care of these batteries making sure that they are charged at least once per month on average when not in season. They are maintenance free and all I have to do is keep them clean and charged. The green eye indicator always works as well telling me when to charge!

Just in case anyone cares to give them a try, that is my testimonial and I just wish I could fit them in my truck and cars.

WOW!!...I thought I was reading about myself, til you said 3 batteries!!...I bought 2 of those from K Mart about the same time you got yours and they're still HOT as ever...green "eye" still glows bright!!...mine stay plugged in to a Guest 20 amp on-board charger all the time and have since new...and like you, I'm hoping the new ones (if I ever have to buy 'em??) are as good as these...I'm still amazed!!...

My local mechanic is an AC/Delco dealer and says he can get 'em no problem...

  10. Nice job, on the platform. I need to replace mine also, I did all the teak less than a year ago and it's a mess already.

Have you had the V20 out since the Tab install? What year V? Any install problems? I've got a set of Bennetts in the garage to go on mine, the way these boats ride I haven't been in a rush to get them installed.

Thanks 2nd Curse...she's a '74 and the only problem w/installation was where the lines came thru the transom...VERY close to inside of splashwell and didn't leave ANY clearance...

    laurenandgabriela008.jpg

As the pic shows, I put 'em as close to outside end of the tranny as they could go...and even relocated holes in trailing edge of tab to get the top of the cylinder away from the splashwell, but still close...

Unfortunately I haven't splashed it since the install and still have wiring to finish up...my bow rides a little high since hangin' the Honda on it several years ago...the tabs will give me some control in that area...anyway, it's done and I am ready to get it wet...I'll let ya know how effective they are...

Can't really tell if you got V20 or not...if so, you'll enjoy this...
