  1. Blue lights are limited to the coasties and other law enforcement . . . thay don't want to share that colour Red and green lights have specific significances as do white lights At what point will we get stopped for having too many lights of any type above the water line?
  2. Chris . . . interesting . . . thanks for sharing the ideas
  3. Hi . . . I tagged along with a buddy 3 years ago when he was looking for a 38 to 42 express . . .we looked at a minimum of 20 boats The used boats on the market today seem to be in worse shape than they were 3 years
  4. Don't know what boat you are buying but your question (I believe) should be "Do you know a good surveyor?" and not "Do I need a surveyor?" While I admittedly have been looking at much older boats that the one you are looking at, I could have ended up buying a boat with a lot of problems if it had not been for the advice I received from the surveyors. Good luck with your new boat!
  5. SHORT UPDATE The hull survey has been completed . . . only a few small problems, nothing major The engine survey is mostly completed . . . oil analysis yet to be completed . . . we also have a previous oil analysis to compare it against Hope to pick up the boat on the 5th or 6th of November
  6. Send him our best wishes and hope to see him on the water before long
  7. The article has some good ideas I saw an article (about 3 years ago) where they graphed the sale of new homes (three price ranges), unemployment rates (three ranges based upon income) and the sale of new boats (three ranges based upon length) and cars (economy, full size, and luxury) House sales increased 12 months after unemployment decreased Car sales increased 6 months after unemploment decreased Boat sales increased 20 months after unemployment decreased NOTE These numbers are based on memory . . . I looked for the article amongst my stuff but I can't find it
  8. Been looking for 14 months Have a contract on a 1963 38ft Bertram convertible Inspections should be completed end of next week Lots of boats are for sale but most have been poorly maintained Most of the brokers I have met are of questionnable character . . . a couple have been quite honorable Hope you all find the boat of your dreams
  9. It been great to have a friend like Ed helping me out . . . without him this would have been a near impossible task. As Ed posted today's survey results have been a load off of my mind. The engine survey will probably be next week. I am not too worried there because when we sea trialed her those cats 3208s ran just great Truly looking forward to picking her up in a few weeks.
  10. Fished Lake Ontario between 1999 and 2002 with three guys who had them They did not have any problems with them and I thought that the quality was good for the price Went out on a 21 (I think) and liked the ride Don't have any more detail other than the boat I road seemed well made Good luck
  11. here is the link to the update on the new (oldie) boat http://reelboating.com/forums/?showtopic=3175
  12. Well the search is hopefully over . . . the paper work has been handled and the deposit made . . . next step is the survey of the hull and then the engines The boat is a 38 ft Bertram built in 1963 . . . only 13 were produced Extensive work was done inside and outside . . . we crawled all over it and took it out for a sea trial Sunday morning The boat is very well rigged for fishing, very well, with only the electronics maybe needing some updating . . . but it is ready to fish as is . . . no problems I will post updates and pics as the work progresses Ed, Fubar512, has been exceptional helping me find this boat and go through all of the steps . . . a true friend

  17. Looking for advice We have a slip in Pirates Cove in the Outer banks of North Carolina and we are going to keep that slip. I want to be able to fish there from early summer to late fall We are considering getting a place in northern Florida. I would bring my boat there for the winter. We are considering northern Florida around St. Augustine as it is not as hot as the Miami area and we have been led to believe that life is not as fast or as violent as southern Florida As a starting point we are looking at around $250,000 . . . having a dock or finger slip would be a dream come true Fishing must be good and within a reasonable distance from shore i.e. 25 to 35 miles We are not rejecting the Gulf coast but we know less about that area Needs to be close to an airport Any suggestions on where to look and where to avoid? Many many thanks
