Am I Being Scammed

Recommended Posts

I listed a couple of items locally and I got a message asking if one of my items was still available. I responded that the item is still available and I got this message back:

I am interesting but can you take PAYPAL and can you ship

oversea, because some people do say no shipping, but i will be

responsible for the shipping cost, get back to me with your PAYPAL

email address if it's OK by you in other to proceed with the

payment......

Regard......

Usually scammers tell me they are sending large fake checks. Is there a way for them to scam with PayPal now? I am not going to deal with this person, but I am curious whether it is legitimate. The spelling errors make it seem fishy.

That sounds fishy but I don't know of anyway PayPal has been hacked yet. They may send you to some bogus PayPal site to "login" and setup a request for payment which would just be a hoax site to steal your username and password. Much like they do when you get emails saying you need to verify your account but the link doesn't bring you to paypal.com

I would think a bank transfer through paypal would be pretty fool proof but I don't know...

Is it worth the risk???

The poor spelling could be the result of a simple language barrier; English might not be their primary language, as they mention shipping overseas.

As previously mentioned, if you do go through with the sale to this person, make sure the PayPal payment clears before shipping the item.

I vote for nixxing ANY kind of transaction whereby you have to ship something overseas. NOT worth the hassle.

My theory is - if it can't be done within a reasonable mileage range then forget it. Whatever it is that you're selling is more than likely available overseas to that other guy anyway.... and if it's NOT, oh, well, he probably doesn't need it anyway.

Just my .02

Is what you are selling worth someone importing - and can it not be easily bought in their country?

Sounds fishy to me.

Perhaps go the next step and simply ask how he/she wants to proceed and see if they want shipping first or something similar. but do all this through direct email.
