Yamaha HPDI

A friend of mine is looking at a 27 jupiter with twin Yamaha 250 HPDI.s on it. I thought I had heard some bad things about that motor in the past. Anyone know anything about these?

No I don't think they are really a "problem" outboard they do need to be maintained like any others. Thirsty on both fuel and oil compared to today's standards, but usually a pretty sturdy outboard. I would have them checked out by a certified Yamaha tech before purchase as well as a marine surveyor to go over the hull. All money well spent.

I have a pair of 200's hanging at near 1000 hrs. Rock solid engines to date. Great running engines and I'm happy with the fuel mileage.

If you have a direct question, I have nothing to hide. Truthfully I love them on my boat.

Most of the 250's [ NOT THE SMALLER ONES ] I have heard about are JUNK .

I highly suggest your friend does some major research on the TWO FIFTY .

Welder I have heard of many more issues with the 300's than the 250's. Still most of the "problems" can be traced to lack of maintenance, from what I have read on them. I do not have first hand knowledge.

I have 2 250hp yams on a velocity 30 and have replaced both power heads the motors have been upgraded and the newer models are more reliable my new power heads are hopefully going to last longer I bought used and didn't research properly. The 200s are very reliable from what I understand regards velocity 30

the 250 and 300 hp engines had/have problems. The 150 and 200 hpdi's were very good engines.
