The bite was a little slow,,but we did end up with a big one!

This fish hit a live menhaden on the bottom while fishing in about 40' of water with 30lb tackle.
After I vented the air bladder on the fish, he was released in great shape.

Nice one !! :1992_beer_cheer:
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well perserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, stiff drink in the other, body throughly used up.

Rick,
Do you use a slip sinker and a circle hook? Like a Carolina rig?
What size circle hook? How much leader?
I have never fished for reds but maybe one day.

Do you go after false albacore in the fall?

Sorry for so many questions.

Jeff

Nice Bull Rick:
Those are about the size we see on the bar every year glad you let it go those are the breeders, and God only will know what will happen to them here in the Gulf. I know that we are sending our sea turtle eggs out to the east coast for preservation you may end up sending us back young reds to replenish who knows, any way great fish

Jeff,,,You asked,
Do you use a slip sinker and a circle hook? Like a Carolina rig? Yes, I do

What size circle hook? How much leader? I use short shank 6/0 live bait hooks with 3' of 50 or 80lb mono leader.

I have never fished for reds but maybe one day.

Do you go after false albacore in the fall?I did years ago in Beaufort NC. I sold all of my fly stuff.

Thanks Rick.

Any reason you stopped the false albie fishing?
Do they still come up there?

Thanks,
Jeff

To be honest,,,,I don't remember why I stopped going up there???
I haven't talked to any body in a while about the fishery up there, but I'm sure they are still there.
