How do I remove a transducer thats in with 5200?

Recommended Posts

Need to pull the a thrull hull transducer than I believe was installed with 5200. It is a crappy Airmar B45 and after 2 years the temp sensor has gone. It is installed in a high speed fairing block (the blue one) and trying to figure if way to remove it without damaging the fairing block or the fiberglass.

Thanks.

I use a short length of single strand wire leader about 20 lb. test. Wrap a piece of dowel on each end for handles, like a garrote. Slip the wire between the fitting and the hull, use a sawing motion and it will slice through the 5200 like cutting butter.

I just did this recently. Use a small blowtorch and heat the transducer metal flange it should loosen the 5200 and be able to push right out.

I just did it last week as well, only I didn't use a torch. I really don't like open flames when boats are lined up like ducks on the hard. I don't have enough insurance to replace them.....

What I did was to just apply pressure using a bottle jack and some timbers. At one point I actually snapped a 2x4 I was putting so much pressure on it.

Anyway, it came out grudgingly, but it came out. Now that the rain has stopped I can go back and put the new thru-hull in.
