I've been working on my cobia fishing, just thought I'd see if anyone here fished for them, and how they did it.

I caught this one of the coast of Jacksonville a few years ago. We were using cedar plugs. There was a guy there using a crossbow

Hi folks.

Down in Brazil they have some monster Cobias - they call them Bijupirà in Portuguese- along the southeast coast.

A skipper in particular- a guy from the town of Ubatuba- catches them- and releases most of them- jigging on top of a certain bottom formation he calls affectionately ' the cobia's nest'.

I know he sometimes will use a live bluefish- one pounder or so, but mostly he jigs.

I personally fish about 90 miles northeast of him and have never caught one of these monsters but one day I will give it a serious shot.

Up here in New Jersey we get them sometimes in July and August. We use eels and throw them to the cobia when we see them. there is no hesitation.

We have had them all year here. We got three small legal cobia on 12-22-09.
