Wet Slip w/no bottom paint

Recommended Posts

I have kept my boat in dry dock for the last three years and looking at just keeping it in a wet slip for three month during the summer season. It does not have a bottom paint job and I am looking at running it every other weekend while it is in the wet slip. Is this going to give me problems down the road being that I do not have it with a bottom paint? :471_confused_face:

Not advisable. You will start getting "growth" after only a few days. In the timeframe you are talking about, the boat will need some expensive cleaning. I kept a boat in fresh water one season and never could get all the junk off of it. I can't imagine what a few months in salt water would do!!

In the right current and salinity you will have growth in three days.

Your gonna think Im crazy,,,but if you can put a cheap tarp under your boat and pull it up as tight as you can to cover the hull while its in the water it will stop the growth on the hull. Yes it will have water between the hull and the tarp,,,but no growth from the current...................................

Remember,,,they do sell white bottom paint.

Actually I am in that "Boat" right now. My trailer is in the shop for a couple of weeks while i have my axles redone. My boat is in buddies slip and the growth on it has been crazy. I have already scraped the bottom once and it only has been a week. One more week to go! When I am in the keys for a week, the bottom doesn't get as bad as it does here in North Palm Beach.
