  1. I don't have any alarms sounding. The engine runs fine at low speeds. When I run up to the 2100rpm range the motor seems to drown out, so to speak. I have been told that it could be carbs or the stator.
  2. I have a Yamaha 150 2 stroke that will not rev over 2100 while in gear. It looks to be leaking gear oil also. How do you know if the foot is bad?
  3. Thanks to everyone for the help on this topic. I am sure there are many boaters that have gelcoat questions. I have never worked on gelcoats, but this will be a first for me. I have painted automobiles in the past as a hobby and was curious about the wear of marine paint. I will try the buffing process first and will let you guys know how it turns out. I may post a few photos because my gelcoat is not in the best condition. Some before and after photos may help also. I have never heard of aqua buff, but I will be purchasing the product because of the response that it has generated from this topic. I do know that the inside of the boat (angler brand) came from the factory with a flat finish. This is probably why is has turned chalky so fast. That leads me to my next question. Can the chalky finish be sealed?
  4. I have a 2000 model boat that has a flat gelcoat finish. I was wondering if I should have it painted. Would the paint stick to a boat used in saltwater or would it be a waste of money?
  5. This topic seems to come up a lot these days. I was told by a boat store employee that the new flex fuel is destroying the new outboards. I was told to stay away from the gas at the pump and start using gas from the marina. A motorcycle mechanic next door is starting to say the same thing about the motorcycles that have been coming into his store. Does anyone really know how long gas can sit in a tank before it goes bad? The consumer really does not know how long the gas actually sits in storage before being delivered to the service stations. If you are uncomfortable about the bad gas then drain it and start over with some high octane. I would be more concerned with the gas tank itself.
  6. I got an ACR PLB today. I have been many times offshore without one, but the older I get the more I think about how crazy it was to be without one. I also have bought a hand held vhf with gps. You never know when a boat's electrical system can short out. The new handhelds have 6 watts of power. That should be enough to reach other boats that are close to you. Also, a flare gun if you fish offshore. The regular flares might not be enough. I guess you can over do it. Better to have it than not have it! Hopefully, I will never use it.
  7. Thanks for the info. I was thinking that most gel coats would have hairline cracks within a 10 year period.
  8. After reading the discussion, I took the foot off of the my 150 to check it out. I have used the flush mount with the engine running, but not on the same day after fishing. No signs of wear. Could have been luck since the engine would have been cold. From now on I will be using the ear muffs just in case.
  9. I was told that the hair line cracks in the transom could not be repaired due to the fiberglass flexing at some point. How long should a wood free transom last? Can hauling a boat make the transom weaker over time?
  10. Nice Boat! I have owned an angler for a while and was actually looking at a boat like that one last week. I would recommend getting a console cover to protect the gauges and fishfinder, but only if you store it outside in the sun.
  11. I have a yamaha 150 and use the flush attachment, but I run the motor while flushing. I have flushed it like this since 2007.
