  1. It had to be about 15 years ago but I was in a friends boat down near the Stinkhole and we were trolling when approached by a Navy patrol boat with blue lights flashing. Said there was a sub below us that was "calibrating it's instruments" and asked us to leave. Said the depth finder and engine noise were a distraction. Later remember seeing some mention of a "degausing range" or something on a chart of that area.
  2. I am certainly not an expert on u-rigs, but I usually rig them wnd troll them with mono. I use a lighter test for the drops thinking that when I hang I can get the rig back. Doesn't always work that way as sometimes two or more drops will get caught. Another thing I try to do is use a 3 arm rig. On on of the arms I put a slightly heavier jig. The rig then seems to travel with the "heavy" arm down. Does seem to tangle less for me that way. But I too have to make the trip to BPS to buy more!
  3. I'm with you Jim. Real tired of this weather and ready for spring. i was in Florida for a week and it was cold there too. Went out on the lake last Saturday and rode around. Trolled a u-rig but did not see anything on the sounder nor did I see any birds working. Water temp was in the mid 40's. Watch the cove pretty hard for the 2 days I was there and did not see any fish breaking. Did see a couple of loons working the cove however so there must be some bait. I think you are right about the next 2 weeks. Things should start to turn around.
  4. Gabriel, Atlanta actually boasts a large number of saltwater fishing folks. Not only are we closer than you think to a wide vaiety of saltwater, Atlanta is the home to transplants from all over. Not to mention pretty good access to fishing the world from our airport. Atlanta used to have the largest skiing club in the US and we are not exactly covered with snow either. Sorry this thread didn't take off more. Everybody must be out fishing.
  5. I was watching something on the History Channel with my son about the Mayan calendar and the world ending in 2012. At the end of the program he just got up and said"gee, I guess I don't need to worry about grades, graduation, or getting a job. It's going to really make college fun now!" He is SCHEDULED to graduate in 2011. Wonder if I can get my money back?
  6. I suggest you check the web for any tournaments that might be going on during the time you are there. Went down once and was disappointed to find all the captains were fishing in one. We had actually booked in advance and we ended up with a "replacement" crew that tried but had little experience. Call several charter captains and see if they are available for the date you want. If they are already booked you can be sure something is up. Good luck and have fun.
  7. Have it in Atlanta on Comcast HD. Very good picture and sound. They do tend to repeat alot.
  8. Nice to meet you "Cheese". Sounds like you have a couple of projects to keep you busy. Look forward to hearing from you and if you are out on the lake try giving me a call on the VHF. I do have it on (about 50% of the time).
  9. I haven't given up on it but there has been little activity from the Lanier guys on this thread (and the other one) for the last several weeks. Must be the dog days of summer.
  10. Check and make sure the fuel line did not get crimped or cut during installation. Also check to make sure the hose is fully on the barb and that the clamp is over the barb and not constricting the hose.
  11. Why do I look at that boat and see kilos stashed all over it??.... Do you think the Coast Guard had the same idea you had????? They seem to be watching closely.
  12. You gotta like a guy that takes time 2 days after he was married and during his honeymoon in Jamaica to post an update on a boating forum. That's dedication.
  13. Guys, I had Armando do one of my boat and it looks great. Best $20 I have spent in awhile. Armando was great to work with. Thanks again Armando. Bob
  14. I found what I needed at Overton's.
  15. Did I see BoKat on here? Well I'll be damned! That's good news. Thought you had just sailed off into retirement Bo. Still planning on having a get together at our dock on 7/11. Hope ya'll can make it. Working on details so more later but this was posted this morning "somewhere else"... "Hope everyone is still planning to come by on the 11th. I know we have had fun when we have done these in the past and it should be fun again with the lake up and the ramps open. Open for suggestions on what time you guys want to meet up. The whole day is open for me. Thought I would go ahead and cook up pork BBQ on the grill / smoker. If you want to bring a side dish or something that would be great. As in the past, please bring your cooler with your beveridge of choice! Send a PM if you need directions to the dock by either water or by land. It is pretty easy to find. We are on the south end of the lake on the Cumming side. I should be at the lake most or all of this weekend so I will have limited access to the net. Maybe I will see you at the lake. Anyone know if LLI is doing fireworks this year?"
