  1. damn, i like whalers, but 51,000 is completely absurd.
  2. anyone know what the classic teal whaler color specific color is? just bought an old 15 montauk and want to paint the inside of it that color.
  3. yes, definitely electronic controls. I have my eyes on a 300 hp Verado thats coming out of a guide program soon, if so i'll buy the associated merc controls and smart craft gauges. my friends boat has a honda 200 on it with the tower and it does 33 knots at full throttle and cruises around 26 sipping fuel.. i'm thinking if i get that 300 verado and prop it right we should come up with some pretty good numbers. there is a 200 opti available for a really good price but i think i'd have a hard time going to a 2 stroke from a 4... we'll see how much this verado is gonna run me.
  4. Bob, still have the PL up here in Lauderdale, pushing 1200 hours in 3 years. the privateer is going to be the keys boat. i got sick of running back and forth whether by trailer or by water. thanks for the comments, still looking for an engine.
  5. Over the last few years i've spent some time on a friends 1989 24' Privateer that he's since put a honda four stroke 200 on and more recently we've added a tower to it . I fell in love with the simplicity, deck space, and the usefulness of the boat. I began looking for one of my own as my next boat. after several months of unsuccessfully locating one locally i nearly jumped in my truck to drive to texas when we drove right by one for sale in the keys. i bought the boat the following day. After comparing hull numbers the one i purchased was hull number 981 and my friend Brian owns hull number 982. what are the chances.... and now that reunite tied up next to each other in key largo... The boats in great shape, i just need a new motor. It has a great running 2000 225hp EFI, the problem is it burns a lot of gas for the type of fishing and boating i do - i'm thinking probably a four stroke honda or maybe an optimax. any votes? heres a few pics.
  6. thanks, glad you enjoyed it, i constantly take pics and videos with my iphone and i figured it was time i did something with them.... steven spielberg hasnt called me yet, but i'm still waiting for my phone to ring..
  7. did an RB member end up buying it or no? i was looking forward to hearing more about it
  8. i dont know whats more suspect, the lifetime warranty on the compressor (which i've never heard of in my life) or the fact that this isnt an advertisement for aamabru.... have any pictures of your install? and or the certificate from marine air that says lifetime warranty? the one in my dealer package says 2 years.....
  9. Jon, beautiful boat, just out of curiosity, whats the weight of the boat unrigged compared to a similar sized hull with traditional fiberglass construction? also, are there any projected running numbers with the twin 300's?
  10. very cool, PS do you eat Cuda that big? or is that for bait on a future trip?
  11. i'm a Deka guy myself, but brand names to me are less important than battery type. these days, i wouldnt use anything but an AGM battery. the technology of the old lead acid battery is somewhat ancient. AGM's will last longer, they dont leak, they dont require maintenance, and they dont explode nearly as often as a lead acid battery. if you wanna save a few bucks on your car battery, put a lead acid in your car. i wouldnt skimp on a battery for your boat though, its far too important. hope that helps! PS i agree with the above comment, if you can fit a 27 over a 24 put in a 27.
  12. boat? engines? i think i have a brand new one in my shop - i'll take a look.
  13. i like the idea of consolidating, should help with participation if the topics and new posts are easier to see!
  14. i agree 100% well said sir... i use to have a 1989 21' four winns, i was constantly throwing money at the engine and sterndrive... had lots of fun on the boat, but it certainly wasnt worth half what i put into it... at the end of the day, i realized what kind of boat i really wanted (center console) and what kind of power i wanted..(outboard not gas i/o) i say, send everyone up to the bow, run that 4 banger to the pins and have fun...
  15. what specifically do you all like more about the v hull vs. the cat hull thats gotten you back into one?
  16. so you would set your maximum full lock up to 1/3 or just where you leave it set while under troll? in other words, lets say your concerned about being spooled, would 1/3 of line test still be the most, or would you leave some drag available to go up to 1/2 or 2/3 breaking strength?
  17. It's gets interesting when one starts comparing just what is "equal" size when comparing the two. Equal size? but based on what criteria, length? weight? physical looking size? or ?? length i'm assuming, obv beam and deck space will always be a little bigger on the cat tho.. does anyone have any downsides of a cat??? besides the "it turns funny" thing i hear about..
  18. i just bought $3000.00 worth of gear and rigging from them 3 weeks ago. they gave me the wrong riggers, they didnt have the right ones, they told me friday, then on friday they told me monday, then monday they told me wednesday, then for sure on friday.......... then today (monday) they tell me not for 2 more weeks!!! i'm completely disgusted right now and plan on driving there in the morning to shove these riggers up someones a@@.
  19. starting to look at options for the next ride, although its probably a little ways away, i'd like to start researching and gathering considerations. Usage: fishing south florida and bahamas on weekends just about all year long though i've not sea trialed, i'm impressed with the layout of the world cat 33' and i've heard alot of good things. other consideration initially was a 33 contender ( though i wasnt impressed with the depositions the president gave recently) so far, i'm leaning towards the cat, i believe its substantially more fuel efficient which is a big deal to me, plus the huge beam i like alot. any thoughts?
