  1. Their popularity is exploding. They are about the only game in town if you want to outperform JL Marine Audio. I can vouch that their amps are the best in the marine market. They are incredibly loud and efficient. The SYN6 is going to be my next amp. The tower speakers are incredible, but no clue on the flush mount speakers. They aren't even on my radar since they don't come in sizes bigger than 6.5. Aside from all that, the amps are crazy expensive.
  2. A couple other pieces of advice. Plasma produces blacker blacks and LCD produces whiter whites. LED's do well at producing both. Plasmas do have a lot of glare in a basic room. It is very hard to compare the pictures of the TV's in the store. Many are set on different contrast/brightness ratios. Most of them are set on a very bright and high contrast so they pop out at you and most are hooked to High Definition. Some are hooked to Blue Ray. The tv will look bigger when it is in your room. LED is definitely the best picture, but the price isn't worth it. You can buy 3 50" plasmas for the price of one 55" LED. You can buy two 52" LCD's for the price of a 55" LED. The LED advantage doesn't, in my opinion, warrant twice the price. The price of LED will come down quickly in the future. The most logical choice would be LCD unless you have to have the lastest and greatest TV. Edit: Also, the Sony's look bigger because the bezel is larger and they have a bigger speaker on the bottom. Samsung seems to have the best price for the features they offer. Shop around and whatever you get you'll think it is amazing comparing it to what you had before.
  3. This is crazy. I was watching the news the other day and they said he is changing his name. He is now Cheetah Woods!!!!
  4. But where in the world would I get something like that???
  5. I need to get a gift for a captain and fishing guide. He is a person that has everything he wants and can get anything he wants. It makes it pretty difficult to get gifts for him. I would like to find something he can use for boating or fishing. I need you guys to come up with something that is truely unique!
  6. Keep us update on the progress. You are starting out with an amazing boat. I am interested in seeing the finished transom. I have a hard time envisioning what it will look like. It is definitely a unique approach to building a euro transom.
  7. Just slightly over 85, but if you are looking used you can find them smaller.
  8. The only time I would use AIS is running in the lCW (to see the names of oncoming barge/ship/yacht-traffic). When I am doing extended range trips I make sure to always have a competent helmsman keeping a good watch on the radar. I don't believe in the turn on AIS and go to sleep system. What I have found is that MarineTraffic.com is pretty nice for daytime on the ICW. Blackberry and IPhone can't support flash, so they can't view it very well. The HTC Hero is flash enabled so you should be able to navigate MarineTraffic.com. It seems like a nice alternative to paying for the AIS receiver only system. Hopefully Google will continue to upgrade the system and make it more effective.
  9. I think the Jacksonville Beach, FL West Marine is the most well run store I have ever been in. The manager is a great guy and he always does his best to provide excellent service. I wish my local West was as good as that one!
  10. The seats move and they have hydraulic rams to cushion the ride in rough seas.
  11. Remember its a "SPECIAL" flashing yellow light on the bow of the tow! I was thinking the actual USCG rule was that you can have as many lights as you would like as long as they don't negatively affect navigation lights or a proper look-out.
  12. "Don't worry boss, if anything is gonna happen its gonna happen out there." "If we get lost, we'll just pull in somewheres and ask directions."
  13. I joined the forums in 2005 when I was in my third year of college. I was 6 hours from the water and it was miserable being away from the ocean most of the year. I would hop on hoping to help a few people with their issues and it helped me continue to feel connected with the boating industry even though I was far from the water. I like this site a lot better and I hope it really gets cranked up. The only reason I go over to the other site is out of habit, which I need to break.
  14. After the one trip offshore I got rid of it and bought a mercury ss prop. The pitch was same on the SS and the piranha. A different diameter and pitch might have gotten it up a little bit, but I never sent it back to get a different diameter. I was thinking it was more of an issue with pushing a 26 foot deep v. I just assumed there was more prop flex and it lost efficiency.
