  1. So Menses drives whilst not paying full attention to the road & posts profanity, abuse & drivel whilst totally hammered on Internet boating sites. The second problem appears to have been addressed in the main. He has been given a long period of musical instruction everywhere but here. I am sure that the FHP will now be on the lookout for a drunken paddy with a faceful of Big Mac swerving all over the road. :1947_eating_popcorn_and_drinkin
  2. Sooooooooooo...............what was par for the course? Sounds like a good recovery. However you may need to get your caddy tested for toxic residue. Menzies can be really nasty if allowed to remain in contact with the skin. Hope it was flushed immediately. :753_hammer_hitting_head: :753_hammer_hitting_head:
  3. I run a C80 with the Navionics card as a plotter/GPS only. Easy to use & read. The bigger C120 screen should handle the split functions with no problems.
  4. Could I suggest that you put the speedo in & leave it unconnected. It will still look good but there will be no chance of a salt water bath behind the dash. GPS speed over ground (SOG) is the only way to go.
  5. Kingair, That is called "bootlace lashing" & gives the cleanest, uncluttered look.
  6. Wind to 40 knots plus. Seas 7 metres (24 feet). Wave interval 8-10 seconds. Big low pressure system off the coast with seas forecast to rise by Saturday with winds well above 60 knots. Time to polish the anchor.
  7. Thanks Guys, Survived it & recovered. :605_thumbs_up:
  8. I tend to buy my boat electronics from the US as prices are way cheaper than in Australia. Purchased a Furuno 585 in 2007 for a new boat I was having built. Installed it & was very happy with the performance but noticed some minor fogging after a few trips. It would clear up after a few hours so I decided I could live with it. This is a known problem with some earlier 585 units. The last three trips out the fogging became worse so I decided to contact Furuno USA who were responsible for warranty. As I am coming to the US in September I asked if I could bring the unit with me & have the repair done whilst I was in the US. The warranty expires in August. Got a prompt reply offering me three options: 1. Bring the unit in when you come to the US & have it repaired under warranty. The warranty cover would still be good as I had notified Furuno of the problem during the warranty period. 2. I could post the unit to Furuno now or at any future date & they would repair it under warranty. 3. Furuno USA would authorize the local agents (who import Furuno but are not a Furuno entity) to do the job. Naturally I selected option 3. Next day I get an email from Furuno USA advising that they have to send the necessary parts (bezel kit) to Australia & this may cause a delay. Yesterday morning I get a call from the local Furuno people advising me that parts have arrived & to bring my 585 head over. Upon arrival, there are no spare parts. However, there is a brand new 585 in a box fresh from the US ready for me to collect. Straight swap. No repairs, no delay. No FedEx charges either way. Sign & go. Two minutes total. That is what I call OUTSTANDING customer service, given that I am not exactly around the corner. And how long did this all take? About ten days from my initial email. Guess who will be supplying my next electronics package??? :605_thumbs_up:
  9. I have one. Down this way they are mandatory on all boats two miles from shore.
  10. The bracket is a mounting point for a transducer. In this case, a "through hull" model. Could not see the sense in cutting holes in a perfectly good alloy hull to insert a piece of plastic. It works well, perfect bottom picture up to 22 knots, bottom trace & depth up to 30 knots. The tubes are for water ballast. They fill when the boat is at rest & drain as soon as power is applied. Moderates the rock 'n roll that comes with 23 deg deadrise.
  11. This pic shows the mounting plates on the transom of my alloy boat. The Tabs are screwed into the plate & sealed with 4200. No transom penetration. The wiring is fed though the hole in the center of the mounting plate & then into an alloy tube which is welded to the inside of the transom. The tube is bought up through the sealed deck which maintains hull integrity. QL Tabs fitted. Over a year of service with no problems. Instant response but I will admit that I did over adjust once early on & the boat tilted big time. Made me read the manual again with more attention paid to details.
  12. Afternoon all, Flying into LAX 4 September for another three month US motoring trip. Having trouble getting a rental car this time although the car will be returned to LAX. Some CA agencies will not rent for that period or have restrictions on where the vehicle can go (like the East coast). Any rental car outlet owners, managers or staff know if there is a general tightening up of rental conditions? Recommendations on who to use this time for a Chev Impala or similar?
  13. Hi all, Just posting this because I can. And to see if my avatar works. Well, I stuffed that up. Fixed it. Plus Big Al told me to register.
