  1. I have operated several of the same boats with mechanical controls and they all were rather stiff to operate. Tried the electronic controls on the same boat this weekend and that why I'm interested. Much smoother to operate, sync feature, etc.... As far a distance of run and bends it's a typically CC run of about 14-15 ft.. The boat is 25' but engines are on a bracket which puts them a few few further back....
  2. Working out the details on a new boat with twin 225 E-Tecs. I have used some of the electronic controls on Yami and Hondas and did not like the delay in response when moving throttles/shifters. For this reason I was thinking mechanical controls on the new rig? However, ran a set of Verados this weekend with electronic controls and there was no delay in response and performed flawlessly. I think the controls which had the delay were "Glendinning" models while the ones on the Verados I am not sure of the make? Question? 1. Are electronic controls unique to engine brands? 2. Does Evinrude have electronic controls for their E-Tecs? If so has anyone here used them? 3. Are there any recommendations as to what brand controls are the better than others? (No delay in control response is a requirement) thanks
  3. I'm having trouble with a 1985 Mercruy 25XD (2 cylinders) At low rpms/idle it is missing on the lower cylinder. I have check fire and compression and everything checks ok. It appears as if there is no fuel making it to the lower cylinder thus no combustion? It only has one carb so all the fuel enters the motor through a single jet. Then passes through the reeds the toward each cylinder. Where or what in the motor seperates the fuel and directs it to each respective cylinder? I feel certain this is where my problem may be? I noticed there are transfer plates on each cylinder is that where the fuel is allowed into the cylinder? Could that be failing and causing the no fuel issue? The reed box and reeds themselves do not appear seperate to each cylinder so I'm thinking that is not the problem? Anyone here know the path fuel takes to get into the cylinders on a mercury? Thanks
  4. Check for an air leak in the fuel line. Everytime I have a inconsistent meter it turns out to be a leak. good luck and let us know if you find something.
  5. Are you talking inshore or off? I you are talking offshore the marlin bite has been decent over the past week or so. Most of the meat fish have moved on as of roughly 3 weeks ago but you never know what comeing up the coast next. Inshore is all the blues and spanish you want. PLenty of AJs off the wreck and towers.
  6. Like said 5200 only if you never ever plan on taking it off. 4200 same great stuff but you can remove it later if needed.
  7. I am pro but use a lot of Rule pumps. I have to keep 5 different boats going many of which have several pumps and Rule tends to run the show. Two years on a smaller pump is alittle short if I would say but not uncommon. The cracked housing is a first for me? You aren't by chance leaving water in the lines during freezing weather are you? I have seen them over heat and the tops swell but never had a housing crack and you have had two? For what its worth I can offer this. As far as I can find Rule makes the best bildge pumps generally speaking. As far as wash down and etc... Surflow, waterdog, etc... tend to lead the pack. Where the biggest challenge comes is with float switches. That is where Rule missing the mark... Even the newly designed heavy duty switch has failed me once already. We go thru switches like crazy. Almost lost a boat last year due to a float switch that failed to float? There is a major design issue in their swtiched. Been using some of the non-moving switches and they seem to be working out ok. You would think they could make a depenable float switch, it's pretty basic technology I would think?
  8. New here and surely hate to kick a man when down also, but the PFD observation does raise concern. Food for though, a Nerf Football can stop a pretty good leak. One of the foam noodles are worth their weight in gold in this situation for patching holes, personal floation, signaling for help, and Great Stuff Foam in a can will set under water. Lastly, I feel certain that while this event was unfolding they were not talking about how great it was to have saved a few bucks on those $5 PFDs. Kinda like Insurance when you need it boy do you need a good policy.
