  1. From WITN (local TV) WITN spoke with Mike Topp, the principal owner of the Citation, on Wednesday. Topp couldn't say much, but he did tell WITN they are continuing to pursue recourse within the rules of the tournament and there is more to follow. When asked how he was dealing with the situation, Topp said "like a cat on a rope." 6/24/10 9:36 A.M. .....this ain't dead by a long shot.....I expect the lawyers to be involved very soon. Look what happened in the white marlin tournament a couple of years ago. That one stayed in the courts for 2 years.
  2. WOW - what a pig - 883 pounds Big Rock Record with a 52 year old tournament. For the first fish over 500 pounds won $318,000 today and I am sure will be the tournament winner, and may win close to $1 million total. What a day for the crew.
  3. I would like to ask Charter Captains for their comments and comments from others on a conversation I had with Mitch Roffs of Roffers SST service at the recent New Bern, NC Saltwater Sportsman Seminar. I talked for about 10 minutes to Mitch between sessions about how bad last years spring tuna season was off the coast of NC. He said the reason was a result of the movement of the gulf stream coming out of the Caribbean Ocean and the Abaco Island. He said when the gulf stream comes to the western side of the Abaco the stream moves closer to the Florida coastline and then hugs the US east coast bringing the nutrients, bait and predators up the western side of the gulfstream. When the stream stays on the eastern side of the Abacos like it did this past spring the food chain stays on the eastern side of the stream, and that is why the long liners did so well. I thought that the stream came out of the gulf and wrapped around the southern tip of Florida and up the coast, but apparently the stream is fed from the Caribbean as well. So hopefully the stream will come more west this winter and we will have good fishing this spring.
  4. I was a big Who fan in college, but those guys sucked wind last night.
  5. Tried a new knot today and looks like it will work well for connecting braid to mono. Started with a bimini twist on the braid and then connected the mono with a reverse albright knot. Link to the video is below http://ultimatefishingblog.blogspot.com/2008/08/connecting-braid-to-monofilament.html
  6. One of the "bad" aspects of Garmin units is that, even though you CAN display engine functions, the screen is setup for an I/O, and can't be re-configured...even on a 5212. That I believe is incorrect. The people using the new NMEA 2k monitor have complete info on the MFD for the outboard info. We may be thinking about 2 different things though.
  7. We purchased a new Samsung 46", LCD (non LED), 120 mhz, 1080p set this summer with HD DirecTV and the picture is fabulous. My neighbor has HD cable on a comparable set and his picture is no where close to ours due to DirecTV HD. I am in NC and looked at all of the local and online purchasing options and bought from Butterfly photo dot com. Free shipping, no tax and no problems, and by far the best price. Delivered on a truck right to my driveway. Just had to get it indoors myself, which was not a huge issue. Good luck and hope this helps.
  8. Gus, Bob has these on his online store and he is a NC guy. I have one and works great, and not too expensive. http://www.southchathamtackle.com/Line_Winders.htm
  9. I purchased a 17 earlier this year and have been pleased. Dry for a skiff and rides well with the bow flare. Good forward and rear fishing platforms. I would highly recommend trim tabs as I use them to adjust for loading on the boat. Thinking about a jack plate to get on plane in skinny water. Hope this helps.
  10. What a blast my son John and I had with Billy, aka Ice Cream Man! He knows where the fish are for sure and we just killed them. Released all of them to fight another day.
  11. He needs to be in jail or doing community service. To have this scum bag making millions of dollars again after drowning, choking and electrocuting dogs is just wrong. I refuse to watch any more NFL football.
  12. Wanted to let you guys know I did business with a powder coater here in Raleigh, PowderCoat USA. They were very reasonable and did a great job on some very old chairs and glider from my wife's grandfather. They have a relationship with a local sand blaster that did the prep work, then they acid washed and did the paint work. The reason I bring this to your attention is the size of his oven, it is huge. The dimensions are 10 feet wide X 20 feet long X 10 feet tall. Mike has been doing this for quite a while and knows his stuff. If you need any work, I would highly recommend them for any of your boating or other needs.
