  1. Sweet! Looks brand new! How long did it take to prep?
  2. Motor is a 1995 yamaha c85 Ran the boat last sunday a total of 40 miles at crusing speed. Not one hiccup. Approximately 500 yards from the ramp i opened her up. As i got into the no wake zone and slowed down i noticed the motor smoking and lost power. Took off the cowling and the head cover was discolored (overheat).Smoke appeared to be coming out of the top of the head gasket. The motor died and we proceeded to use our freedive fins to row ourselves in the last 20 yards. Pretty funny. Today i had time to attempt removal of the head. Broke 3 or 4 bolts in the process and the head cover stayed stuck onto the head. Attatched youll find pictures i took with my phone so sorry about the crappy pictures. http://s887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/silentthreatinc/?action=view&current=head.jpg These pictures were taken AFTER i cleaned out some of the salt deposit in the water passages because it was full of deposit. The cylinder walls are smooth and show no damage but it looks like detonation is the cause. Looks like theres pitting on the cylinder heads. The carbs were recently tuned, water seperator is new, gas was new, mixed 50:1, impeller is new. So how bad is it? can i just change the head and head cover and call it a day? new pistons? complete over haul? Your thoughts please. thanks again
  3. Sounds like its time to take off and clean the carbs. Might just be a cheap fix. Andres
  4. I have a 90 hp yamaha and had a little trouble getting mine off. I basically muscled mine off and found the plastic to be quite strong. Cleaned it with some carb cleaner and its good to go. Not sure if the older filters are paper filters or not but pretty sure the newer ones are plastic. Hope that helps. Andres
  5. Will do! thanks a lot! Has anyone else had this type of problem?
  6. Thanks for the quick reply. This is a 2 stroke carbed motor. Isnt the ECM for electronic fuel injection?
  7. Motor is a 1995 c85 that i rigged myself on my 17' center console. Motor would start fine without a problem. Last week while trying to crank it over all the power to the motor quit all of a sudden. No tilt trim either. After inspecting it, i found it to be the main fuse was blown so i replaced it. Now everytime i just turn the key to the on position without even cranking it the fuse blows and nothing works, but if i dont turn it to the on position the tilt trim works fine. I checked the wire harness and everything is fine, no kinks or cuts. Ive been told it could be a short but where would i likely find a short? The grounds are all fine too. I was also told that it could be the regulator rectifier but i thought that the rectifier was only to convert ac power to dc. Could it be giving out too much power therefore blowing the fuse? Any help is appreciated as i am all out of ideas. Thanks, Andres
  8. its an 89. I heard somewhere they might have changed the model soon after that year.
  9. Nice ride! I hear those 19' duskys are tough for their size! Andres
  10. Thanks for the quick response! ill check tomorrow on the transom and see if i find that label although im pretty sure i dont remember seeing one. Any other replies are appreciated! Thanks again, Andres
  11. Hello to all. Good to see a fresh new site in the boating forum community. I recently obtained a 1989 key west 17 footer from a buddy of mine. Gave it to me actually. So i took it on as a project and plan to use it to hit up the reefs and do some spearfishing. I changed the 40 hp evinrude on it and got myself a yamaha c85, new wiring, lights, seats and cushions, etc. I have a few questions though and cant seem to find the answers to them. The gas tank is on the console and i dont know how many gallons it is. Is there wood in this boat? How well does it ride? Any answers or tips are greatly appreciated. Ill see if I post some pics later. Thanks Andres
