I enjoy fishing on my CABO 216 CuddyCon for local fish such as Striper's, Sturgeon, Halibut, Rock Fish, Ling Cod and King Salmon. Off shore I fish for Albacore and Blue Fin Tuna. Occasionally I fish out of San Diego on a few Long Range boats between 8 and 16 day trip. Their we head South for assortment of fish like Yellowtail, Yellowfin, and Wahoo.

  1. I only have a single outboard so not familiar with multiple motors. How do you match the the rpm so they all operate the same?
  2. I fish the Accurate 197C, B2-270, B2-870 and 80 wide and never exerienced what you mentioned. You should have the reel serviced. Alan Tani who visits this site is the man for reeels. He might see your delima and respond to you. Owning a Accurate is a treasure.
  3. I don't have a clue about Torsa reels or the price, but can tell you the Avet performs very well. It's a lever drag vs star drag so if your not used to using a lever drag it will take some time to get used to. The Avet will free spool like no other reel.
  4. I have two Avet MX single speed. Both are great reels. I also have the SX model. I prefer the SX over the MX only because we can only fish in 40 fathom and above here in Northern California. The MX would hold a lot more Spectra for your type of deep drop fishing. Anyway all three reels are loaded with 50 pound Jerry Brown white spectra and top shot of 20 pound Big Game mono. You will like both model which ever you decide to purchase. I've caught quite a few Albacore and Blue Fin Tuna in the 40 pound range fly lining live Anchovies with the SX single speed.
  5. My friend just installed his FCV 585 and drilled the hull for Airmar B164 Tilted Element. It's 1000Watt unit for a dead rise between 5, 12, and 20 degree. He trailers his boat (26 Ft. C.C.) so wanted a low profile unit under the boat so not to hit one of the bunks. It's what I'm going with also. What a difference in holding the bottom and you can mark your spot and make a way point if you find something interesting. You have the same option on the 295. I wish I had the room along with my other instruments. Anyway I like separate units just in case one takes a dump. It's just my preference.
  6. I'm from the west Coast and enjoyed your previous site. Anyway, I have older CABO 216 CuddyCOn with the original Yamaha 175. I've redone the wiring throughout with Ancor tinned wire in hopes of reducing the dreaded black death. All the bait pumps were replaced with a lower amp draw to save the batteries and replaced the bilge pump with 2000 GPH pump. I have Furuno 600L sounder with transom mount 600 Watt transducer. It a modest priced unit which serves me well when fishing under 40 fathoms. I also have Navico 5200 auto pilot system and Standard Horizon VHF radio and ACR Globalfix Epirb 406. I usually fish the Central Valley Delta for Striper's and Sturgeon using another trusted chart plotter, Garmin 492C. Fishing for Halibut in the San Francisco Bay and outside the Gate is another fun place were we catch assortment of rock fish including Cabezon and Ling Cod. When the King Salmon arrive you can find me trolling the North & South Bar then over to Duxberry Reef usinf two Scotty's electric downriggers. Often time we fish Monterey Bay as well as Half Moon Bay for the same. I smashed the top of my JRC 1000 radar head while attempting to wash the boat at one of those coin operated place so looking for a replacement. I'm sure happy I can trailer to these spots for now. Many of the harbors up North and Central coast will be hampered if the new MLPA goes into effect. Can you tell I love to fish!!! I fish Long Range out of San Diego each year in November/December looking for another Cow Yellow Fin Tuna. Oh yea, I'm a commercial Real Estate Broker. I posted a picture of my boat already.
  7. Two Sturgeons caught using Ghost Shrimp near San Bruno Shoals. We did well over this spot.
  8. Fishing on the anchor for Sturgeon in San Francisco Bay
