Mark, Sorry about the delay in responding. I launch out of Oakland beach usually. I am trying to work through some motor problems right now so a late start this year.

I have seen one report about squid starting in the bay. Can any one confirm this? I am thinking about going out Friday night. But I would like at least one more positive report first.

My boy Rookie about 7-8 months old in the pictures 1 year now. He is not overly boat friendly loves the water though! Probably no more boating for him, I don't know how I would get him back in if he decided to go for a swim.

Yea, I am hoping for the fish, but if not, always a good time on the water. shh, don't tell anyone, but I'm still looking for my first keeper striper. This year for sure!

Aha! That is exactly why I asked I forgot the whole floating dock thing. I assume it will be as most of the docks around here are, will be sure to check! I don't know how i missed that. with floaters tide changes will be not quite the issue I was concerned about. I just wasn't sure of the docking etiquette of having the boat floating somewhat free like that. I'm glad it isn't a problem. I should be good for fenders and the like, I can improvise pretty well if needed. Thanks prompt reply!

Hey, my name is Chris, aka dbetterred. I fish mainly Narragansett Bay and out to Block Island. I have a Wellcraft V20, I just purchased last year so I am still getting it set up the way I would like it (never ends). I am a transplant from Wisconsin and grew up fishing Muskie, Northern Pike and Walleye mainly. Oh, and I've fried a few perch and bluegill. So the whole saltwater thing is new to me, And I love it! Addicted to the salt you could say.

I will be slipping my boat (Wellcraft V20) for a weekend tournament in may and a full week in late July. And I realized I do not know how to tie up if the boat is up against the dock on one side only, with nothing on the other side to keep it away from the dock. I can obviously tie up short term with out a problem, but how do I account for tides with out the boat floating away from the dock a few feet? I am fine if I have two opposite points to tie up to but not sure about this. I don't know if this will even be a problem, but figured I should be ready. Anyone have any links to a boat tie up reference? fyi, my boat has cleats in rear corners, spring cleats amidships (hardly a ship though), and center bow. Thanks for any help!

Pretty interesting set of photos. Cool being able to watch a boat being built. I can definitely see why some items are really hard to access by the boat owner. If only we could pull the whole cap off when we wanted to reach this pump or rewire that light or figure out what the heck is leaking.

Dbetterred is a play on the old Killian's Red tag line "The Better Red". I am redheaded (and a stepchild!). So it fit. I've used it for most everything for ten or twelve years, can't stop now. The boat is named "Dragon Anchor" long history of dragons in the family (grandfather's camper was named the "Dragon's Cave" and they had a tent named the "Dragon's Den") had to continue the family tradition. And of course, the anchor will never grab on the first try!!!
