  1. Ain't that the truth. There is a You Tube video out on anything you want to know. I wouldn't pay anything for it myself, not unless it was really special. Even a quality professional site like Professional Boat Builder is free, and they have a lot of content. I'd have to see a lot of good content before I'd consider paying a fee. Exactly! Hey Pastor Bob, are you the same Pastor Bob that I know Hey Cracker, I'm probably not the pastor Bob you know. I pastor a church in Anchorage, Alaska. But then again maybe you have spent time up here.
  2. If it was really reasonable I would be interested. I am currently on a subscription site that I like just fine and I think is worth it, but it only runs about $20 a year. Although I have found that most fee based sites don't offer any better prices than I can find for free on other sites.
  3. I had an intake hose on an inboard come off pumping water into the engine compartment, a small hose was laying on top of the bilge pump float switch keeping it from coming on. The other one in the engine compartment didn't work for some reason, finally the one near the middle of the boat came on. One out of three worked. All three now work but I also added a water intrusion alarm. If I'm in the slop and the boat is rocking pretty good the alarm will come on for a second or two as the small amount of water in the bilge is tossed around. Actually, I want to hear it in those condition because that lets me know it is working. If the alarm seems to be coming on a lot and we are being tossed around to much to go check I can turn the pumps on manually from the helm just to make sure.
  4. Hey Dan, Let me know how well the 620 works, maybe for the price difference I will go for the 620.
  5. I would go with the 585. The 620 is really good and would probably be fine but you can use a 1000 watt transducer with the 585. The 620 is rated at 600 watts which is probably plenty but when I'm trying to get a good look at the bottom at 400 or more feet I feel like the 1000 watt would be best. I read somewhere that fishfinders only work with fish that have air bladders. I don't know if that is true or not but would explain why you have so much trouble seeing dogfish.
  6. I also fish Alaska, mostly out of Seward so I don't do as much shrimping anymore. My boat has three fishfinders on it but they are dated and I want to replace one of them with a Furuno 585 which is about as good as you can get without geting into really high priced units.
