Garmin is Beta testing with Navionics Bathy maps and we have them!

Interesting. I bought a Garmin because they "said" that the chart they had was good for my local waters. Upon install it sucked plain and simple. When I complained I was told and I saved the emails that they were working on a better chart and they would exchange the chart straight up when the changes were complete. It never happened. If it wasn't so much work to rip out the Garmin and replace it with the Raymarine system I would have done it over spite... not the money the following year. One of my slipmates went with Raymarine after our conversations.

I'll admit the G is easier to run than the R but I got pretty good with the R so it was not a big deal when what I wanted was detail.

My Navionics chart was head and shoulders better than the Garmin.

I just got a note from Garmin saying the will not be supporting these charts, and moving forward their units will not be compatible with any charts other than Garmin. The reason is they want to be able to support the user experience from start to finish, and by allowing other software into their systems they lose this control and ultimately open themselves and their users to potential problems. Makes sense to me. Garmin likes to keep it easy, this keeps it easy.

Re: Real time testing

It won't happen because Garmin wants to control everything using Garmin gear and charts only.

I met the guys on the water doing real time mapping for Navionics. I bought from Garmin and worked after the fact with them. They hit the 80% mark. During my daily working day, 80% is total failure.

I think we can all agree that Garmin is sub-contracting and re-labeling the mapping aspect of the work. Personally I expected more from a company so well known in guidance technology.
