Garmin really doesn't have anything available now which is similar. So if you want a touchscreen that has everything built into it like the gps antenna, ff, etc, then I would say they are worth waiting for. If you are OK with a button unit then the 840 and 1040 are avail now and are really nice!

I was thinking of going with a 1040 and pair it with the new 7610, so I would have one keyed and one touch. If the boat has Teleflex Seastar hydrualic steering can you add a GPH 20 without the need for another pump ?

If you have hydraulic steering you will need a pump. If you have power assist steering you still need another pump but you can use the seastar add-on pump. The garmin pilot would not be a good option in this case because you would need to use a rudder reference unit. You could use the garmin pilot as long as you used a garmin pump but then you couldn't use the seastar add-on pump which is nice.

I don't recommend a button screen and a touchscreen being used together. The on-screen menus look similar enough that you'll find yourself trying to use the 1040 as a touchscreen. Just get 2 1040's!

I agree 1005 with Jim , 2 1040s would be my choice and will save you money to put in the fuel tank and go FISHING!

I only have 1 1040 and its a great machine!Two would be sweet.
