Need Some Help From The Florida Folks

Recommended Posts

We plan to get married on St. Armand's Key at Lido beach on October 1st.

Planning on leaving St. Armand's on Sunday October 2nd and drive to Key West. Stay a few days in Key West, then drive up to Islamorada and hang out for a few days, then finish up the trip with a stop at St. Augustine's for a few days on the way back home to NC.

Any advice on Key West and St Augustine's lodging would be appreciated. Planning on Bud and Mary's while in Islamorada, yes, we are gonna do a little fishing!

Thanks gang!!

Plan on spending a day or more in KW. There is much to see i.e. the Mel Fisher Museum,Truman Annex, Butterfly Museum, the Hemingway House. Take the Conch Train tour for an overview. For eats Pepe's on Caroline St. is my fave. For Cuban food El Siboney on Catherine St. Caroline's on Duval for jumbalaya. Louie's Backyard for some upscale but excellent dining. There are many forms of lodging which you can tailor to your budget. If you are near Sugarloaf Key (M.M.20) around mealtime or in the mood for a cocktail stop at Mangrove Mama's another fave of mine. Forget about the No Name, food is passable, service is lousy. Overpriced tourist trap. You can PM if you have questions.

Congrats and enjoy! :605_thumbs_up:

As far as lodging in Key West, depends what yer looking for. As it's a honeymoon, congrats, BTW, I'm thinking full service hotel or B n B. The Hilton is nice, but I prefer Southernmost (my fave hotel on the island) or the Reach (Waldorf property) further from town. There are so many good B n B's it's hard to narrow it down. Google them and if you see one you like, go for it. Most are as advertised. You sure you want to stay @Bud's on yer honeymoon? Not exactly posh digs. Graet fishing, accomodations not so much. Consider the Cheeca, Chesapeake, Moorings (higher end) or Casa Morada (cool spot by a great restaurant-old FL feel), Ocean Dawn of the Islander (less expensive, but nice). A TON of great restaurants in both places. In Isla, all are good, but avoid Bentley's. Stick with Lazy Day's, Ziggy n Maddog's, Morada Bay, Pierre's...

Joe has some good suggestions.

As many times as I've been there I hate playing tourist, but we took the conch train tour once and it was pretty good.

While on land look into renting scooters. Best was to navigate around, u-turn in the road, park anywhere etc.

Hope there's a quick stop by Jupiter on the way!

While you're on St. Armands, have dinner at the Columbia, second oldest one behind the original in Ybor. Pork stuffed with Chorizo...

St. George's St. in St Augustine, you'll love it. The newer buildings were built in the late 1700s, skip the Oldest House tour...it's an old effin house! Excellent B & Bs along the bay just south of the bridge with the lions...

I went to St Augustine back in June with a group from another forum I am on, I stayed at the Marion Motor Lodge, clean, good beds and right across the street from St Augustine Municipal Marina which is right by The Bridge of Lions, Link to their webpage: http://marionmotorlodge.com/3.html , some of the group stayed in the Bayfront Inn, next door to the Marion, they spoke highly of the Bayfront, one of them writes reviews on things and places, she wrote a review on the Bayfront and some other things they did while there, link to review: http://awaywegotravelblog.blogspot.com/ , Link to Bayfront webpage: http://www.bayfrontinn.com/index.htm ,this B&B was recommended to me but I did not stay there, I wanted to be right across from the marina since that is where the group was meeting up, it does look nice from the pics, link to it: http://www.victorianhousebnb.com/rooms_rates/rooms_rates.htm. Gives a few more things to look at. Hope it helps.
